Hello to all i'm new here and working on my second smoker it's an alum. tank 40''round 48'' tall. Kinda thin walled i'm hoping this will work out anybody got any helpful comments both good or bad? Thanks for now!!

As for aluminum I would think that it would be hard to work with as far as welding etc. Other than that it should work as they have made millions of grills over the years out of it and they generate a lot higher temps than a smoker...

About the aluminum tank, my rig is a homebuilt vertical made from an aluminum doughnut transporting case and an old beer keg( also aluminum ). I don't have a welder so I had to improvise and drill and rivet everything. So far I've had no Problems with anything that I fastened with the rivets, holding up to heat the very well. I've been able to reach temp of 300* easily with a turkey fryer burner in the bottom of the smoking box. THe beer keg is the smoke generator.
Anywho...sorry got a little longwinded about my rig! Go for it with the tank! You just might have to use a little more brain matter to put it together!
