Alternative to Pellet Smoker Advice

I'm sure this has been asked 100x but I need advice on purchasing a new smoker. I was just about to pull the trigger on a Pit Boss Pro Series Vertical Smoker until I read the forums that pellet smokers do not produce a lot of smoke. I was actually going to purchase three to use for our church at special occasions. I want something easy, set time/temp and let it run, so what is recommended? I looked at Ole Hickory CTO commercial but a bit out of my price range.
 
Pellet smokers will produce a fare amount of smoke if used at lower temps (225°and below). And do remember if using mostly for church functions, alot of people don't care for a heavy smoke profile.
Many on here including myself use RT.

Masterbuilt Gravity feeds are your ticket. Set and forget temp control but fueled by charcoal and wood. Results are darn near on par with stick burners.

this is not a universal truth at all. my Rec Teq puts out a good amount of smoke and has a high smoke setting if you want to do that for a while, but its not needed. Check out the Rec Teq line up and search the forum for comments. Many of us have them and all love them. I've had mine about 10 years and its as good as day 1.

I have heard of other brands where people say the smoke level is low. To remain neutral for now, I will not bash them.
 
i would recommend a pellet smoker as the flavor profile suit the masses very well.
alot of pellet smokers have a "smoke mode" or "super smoke" and you can get great flavor with them esp for the ease of use and not having to babysit them

Not true with all of them . I have a Gen 2 Weber SmokeFire that puts a great smoke profile on food .
A lot of good pellet set ups out there . I buy another Weber in a heartbeat .
 
I often wonder if the people who claim pellet smokers don't put out enough smoke are simply using lighter flavor woods, or maybe grilling burgers or something that requires higher heat.
I never had that problem with my GMG Daniel Boone. There was always enough smoke wafting around to peak my neighbors' interest.

there is a pretty decent variability depending on the pellets used. the first ones I tried very super mild-too mild for me...for the life of me I cant recall the brand.

Lumberjack competition blend is all i use for everything.

I have a Green Mountain Grill ( GMG) Peak... used to be The Daniel Boone I believe. I have no complaints on amount of smoke I get. Only use Lumberjack pellets, occasionally will augment with a smoke tube but not usually.
