The way Ace prices, that would just get the price down to normal. They're higher priced on everything.

Kosmos Q is closing his walk-in shop here in OKC. I doubt it was turning a profit. He was trying to be a barbecue supply that had everything. And frankly, his prices don't compete with Academy, but they were lower than Ace.

Anyway, an employee at Kosmos told me their complete line of rubs, sauce, brines, et al will be in Ace, in 2025. I think he said early 2025.

Thanks for posting. I know Ace can be a bit pricey but not near as high as my local butcher shop. I've been impressed with the variety at Ace. Gives me a chance to try some different stuff without having to pay shipping or commit to a large order.

I do the Ace rewards program. I get coupons every month, something like $5 off $20 purchase , or sometimes just $5 off any purchase.

And still, I beat their prices for barbecue items at Academy. Like B&B Oak briquettes. They just can't beat Academy's $10 a bag.

But there's other items at Ace that I buy there, because they have it in stock. They're great for hardware items.

I gotta say though, lately, I've been finding the best price at Home Depot, they're even beating Amazon ........... and they have a delivery program, that's free and relatively fast. If ya think fast shipping is important.

I don't have many options for certain things around here. My local Ace has alot of this stuff now at a reasonable price. I will say, the owner of my local shop is a great guy.. maybe that's what makes it.

I think that's exactly what makes it. There are 2 Ace stores in my area and both are independent franchises. Service at either one of them is very good. Walk into a Home Depot around here and you're on your own.

There's alot to say about smaller stores and the local service they provide. Even if not as cheap as some of the bigger stores

No local Meat Church or Kosmos around here and Ace's price sure beats Amazon's if you do Ace Ship to Store.

That's not been my experience.

I buy almost everything on-line. I search for the item and find the best price with the primary variable being shipping cost. Ace is on my list of places to check, especially for barbecue supplies, and the only time I buy there, if they're the only one to have the item.

Ace also stocks Meat Church. But prices are better buying direct from Meat Church. And Matt Pittman says if you buy direct, he gaurantees the rubs will be fresh, they will be made up the week of your order.

Outside of not buying, price shopping is the only counter the consumer has to inflation. I'm frugal by nature, my parents were frugal and I come by it honest, but I don't pay full price for just about anything, if can help it. If everyone price shopped, it would put downward pressure on prices.

We have an independently owned one locally also, same owner family for generations.I've found some incredible deals there the two best being my Weber firepit (15+ yrs ago) and Auber 1211H both which I grabbed for close to 75% off, they were both "open" boxes that the owner had no idea where they even came from. It's a place I check anytime I'm near just in case!

Exactly . It doesn't take long either . They can mark it up all they want , but sitting on the shelf is zero profit that turns into a loss .

That said , I shop the independants even if it's a few dollars more , at least to a point .
I see that extra money as convenience , service , usually not crowded .
The Ace here is across town , but I stop in for a look now and then .

I can honestly say I dont think I have ever purchased anything I intend to eat from a hardware/home improvement store. Not even a random beef stick. My brain cannot associate eating with 2x4's, paint and nuts, and bolts.

That said, our local ACE is a great little store regarding customer service. Problem is I forget about it. it's over in a place, not that far away, but I never have any other reason to be over there.

It's hard to find a balance. Lowe's and Home Depot are like huge warehouses you have to walk several football fields to shop it all, while the ACE feels almost claustrophobic. I feel like I cant stand back far enough in the aisles to really take the display in. Then you go over to Tractor supply and you have freaking live chickens between the feed and nuts and bolts.

I miss my old local claustrophobic hardware store. I dont think the Lowe's/Walmart conglomeration moving in killed them, the owner died and the kids were useless...and his wife was not much better than them. I used to go out of my way to patronize them and pay more for a tube of liquid nails. It was the last place around here you could go and look through bins of screws and buy one freaking screw if you wanted. Once the old man died they sucked though...like I said, the rest of the family clearly didn't want to own a hardware store.

Anyway, like Smokin' Okie said, 10% ain't enough to get me off the couch. I freaking "power shop"! ACE's ship to home is great though. When I remember them (I literally forget they exist), I have used that service and loved it. And the last thing I bought (I think it was a plastic deck box), they and Amazon were the only ones that had what we wanted to match and ACE was cheaper than Amazon, ship to store and free delivery. Sometimes they can really be useful.

Thanks for the reminder!

Speaking of power shopping. For those in the East/Mid-Atlantic, Food Lion here has NY strip steaks (our favorite cut for the money) for $7.99 a pound. That's around 43% off. Baby backs for 2.99. Dang it, I was trying to not go out anywhere today...but they also have vine tomatoes at .99...and hey, I was planning on burgers tomorrow and need a slicing tomato...total justification for more crap in my freezers!

Walk into my local Ace, and the first thing you're hit with is a huge amount of floor space dedicated to grilling and barbecue. From smokers to accessories to rubs and brines. It has the most floor and shelf space of any other product.

Far far more space then Home Depot or Lowes.

Academy's floor space is somewhat similar, but its in the back of the store. And Academy's can vary from store to store. I have one 2 miles away but rarely do they have what I'm looking for in stock, I have to drive 15 miles to Norman.

But I seldom go to any of them. I shop on-line.

The ACE stores in our area are usually the same price as online rubs.
Matt says that Meat Church was one of their Vendor of the Year award winners and their Hickory is an Ace exclusive for a certain time frame.
I am fortunate to provide the group benefits for several stores within a 2 1/2 drive and shop them weekly.
Usually have some of the best customer service around. Love their ship to store service and use it often. And the rewards program definitely helps out.

I will have to check it out. I am friends with my local Ace hardware store.

Have a local ACE that keeps a small selection. One near my work keeps a large selection of rubs, sauces, and charcoal. It's the only place I can get the spray Duck Fat without ordering Amazon for the same price.

I thought all the Ace Hardware locations in SoCal were long gone but I just searched and there is still one about 15 miles away that is pretty much in an out of touch place that most would never visit. I might just have to check it out.
