Hi all,

I'm quite new to this site, in fact I just found it today after desperately trying to figure out how to continue using our Masterbuilt electric smoker 20070408 that had given up it's ghost.

Glad I found you though, this seems to be a treasure trough of information. Especially the Frankensmokers I've come across when perusing your site - awesome!

Living in coastal AL, but of German descend, hence I've been using our smoker relentlessly until it conched out for all kinds of sausages, hams, and the ubiquitous ribs and butts now and then. We just can't find the lunch meats we love to eat @here, so besides making our own bread, I've become sort of a butcher over the years. Admittedly that was somewhat of a challenge considering the temps, but funky contraptions (like an upturned metal garbage can to capture cold smoke over our electric unit) worked okay, in winter time at least.

Well, now I don't have to worry about too much heat anymore, as there's none forthcoming. As for smoke, looking forward to try out the Amaz'N'  cold smoke generator. Maybe this element breaking was a lucky thing after all.

Anyway, good to be here!

Barbara

First off Welcome Barbara to SMF.  You'll like it here for there are alot of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking. Now there are alot of proven recipes for some amazing things here too. Now I also smoke alot of good meats that we slice up and make our own lunch meat too. We haven't bought any lunchmeat, bacon, or sausage in about a year now and I don't see any stopping now either So if you need sign up for the E-Course it's free and it will give you the basics of smoking and some good methods to use also. So the next big thing for you to do is go out and get you something to smoke and if you happen to have any questions just post it here and we will be happy to answer them for you.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Hi, and thank you all for the great welcome. I couldn't be happier here.

Richoso, I hope you didn't read too much into it

.

Hope I'm gonna fit right in, and perhaps learn a thing or two. These days with so much junk sold at premium prices, I'm  trying to recapture old recipes and cooking techniques. And, don't y'all know, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself, LOL.
