My fellow Floridian's .... not sure if everyone is up to speed on the weather but it looks like there's a Tropical Storm (Fay) brewing around Cuba and the path has FL in the line of site. Forecasters aren't sure if it's going to hit the west coast, south coast, or east cost, but we're sure to get something ....

Hope everyone starts to prep to avoid some of the craziness if and/when Fay comes your way!

Thanks Cowgirl - it's been 4 years since we had our barrage of 'canes hitting our door so it's about time we get smacked with one .... hope it's just a sting and not a slap!!

I don't think it's time to break out the window shutters and gas up the genny just yet, there really is no "good" forecast path, it could even head west and hit the Yucatan Pennisula. Still, I will be keeping my eye on it while I smoke some BB's this weekend, we should know more about Fay's path come Sunday. [IMG]

Well the 11 pm track stinks but hopefully it changes again which is likely I don't need to deal with it at home then again at camp so a little different path would be nice

Flash - be careful if you're in Cedar Key ... that area is bound to get drenched.

Good thread Sumo! My family has been in Florida for generations so, I learned early that the time to start preparing for a storm is right after the last one that came through. My parents had what I think is a great plan for food, I've been doing now for many years and it really came in handy in 2004. Mom and dad would start collecting "storm food" in January. Every trip to the grocery store, they'd buy one or two nonperishable items and store them away. This avoided the panic buying just before the storm and wasn't hard on thier wallet. You also have a much better selection and not just a pile of tuna and spam, although grilled spam is wonderful. They also bought bottled water and the usual storm supplies like batteries. By the time hurricane season started, they were well stocked. If there was a storm they had plenty of food for all of us, dad made sure we had at least a two week supply of every thing. If there were no storms that year, in December we'd load every thing up and donate it to the local homeless shelter food pantry. They seemed to really appreciate it. The cycle started over again in January.

I hope it will fizzle out. I work for Entergy in New Orleans that the electric company. We don't need any hurricanes. No one needs any hurricanes I remember when I think five of them hit FL I spent about a month there helping to get the power back up. Keep your fingers crossed.

West FL coast had it "easy" for a long time now. I pucker up every time something new forms now, playing the odds is getting harder and harder knowing our time for a big hit in Tampa is getting closer and closer... G/L to all ya'll, and look at the bright side for all you stick burners: LOTS of free oak!

I am actually about 20 minutes or so inland from CK. One good thing is I will not be the photographer to cover the storm surge in CK this year (retired). I will sit at home and wolf down some pulled beef instead.
