  • 30" electric cabinet style vertical smoker with rear control and temp probe. It worked fine and I liked it but the control faded and failed in a year. Also the electric smokers ONLY make smoke when the unit calls for heat. I replaced the control witha n oben thermostat, worked fone after that.

Pros - The compact size makes it easy to store and ready when you need it. Love the electronic temp and timer on top. Well designed.
Cons - Power cord too short. No wheels like other models so I bought the Avion Innovative 914 Wheel Kit.
Power cord too short so bought a heavy duty appliance cord extension. Now I can plug smoker into the garage electric outlet and roll it out to the driveway with a new wheel kit I got from Avion Innovative Products. It has rubber wheels and rolls smoothly. It locks the two front wheels when in place. The other MasterBuilt models has 2 rear wheels, so had to tilt and push it back and forth to position it. The 4 wheel kit on my 914 can be moved in any direction effortlessly. Great product.

Pros - Maintains temperature well. Meat probe. Insulated cabinet.
Cons - None as of yet.
Got this smoker to augment my home built offset charcoal wood smoker due to the fact it has been in the twenties here in CO. It is hard to maintain temperature since the barrel is not insulated at all and I am supposed to smoke a turkey every thanksgiving for our big holiday get together. My brother in law has one of the bigger Masterbuilts and it produces great results so I stopped in at Cabela's on wed. to see if they had anything on sale and when I walked in it was a wall to wall sale on Masterbuilts!  Picked this one because of the meat probe and the features it offered and the price was great so I brought it home and seasoned it according to the directions in the manual. Thanksgiving day in went the turkey. 14 lbs and basically I set the temp at 225 for about 5 hrs. and bumped it up to 250 for about 1.5 hrs and when the breast was at 165 I pulled it out and all I can say is WOW! It was a big hit. I also did a kielbasa to see how that would be and it was excellent too! Thanks to Masterbuilt for making a great product and helping to makeThanksgiving a big hit.

If you are willing to take the good with the bad. Not all cooks are successful for any operator, smoker, or meat. Good looking unit tho remember always check probe calibration if possible with ice water before you cook and always have a backup instapen.

I am new to this forum and to smoking but I love reading everyone's post about smoking their meat. Just curious, how long did you smoke the Kielbasa?

I bought the Masterbuilt 40" with remote and window. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. I didn't really want the 40" but it was priced the same as the 30" at Academy on Black Friday. It was $199 which I thought was pretty good.

Can't wait to get on here and learn all about smoking.

Can you tell me the internal measurements, particularly the distance from the top rack to the smoking pan???
