Masterbuilt dual fuel and wood chip questions

When cooking with propane, I have tried putting the chips in the OE supplied pan, and also using the frying pan on top of the OE pan. OE pan use, and I get flareups, put the chips in the frying pan on top of the OE pan and I have to raise the smoker temp to get any smoke at all.  I tried...

After wrestling with the standard food saver bags tonight, I decided to go where all of the good reviews are leading me, and get a load of bags from VSU.

    Masterbuilt Dual Fuel mod

Someone suggested making this mod to the masterbuilte dual fuel smoker, so I thought I would give it a try on my first smoke using charcoal. The mod was to cover the burner hole with a pie tin in order to get better control of the heat, by using the vents, as intended. I couldn't liberate a...

Second smoke, first chicken. (with Q view this time)

I blew it with getting Q view with my pulled pork, so I knew I had to get something in this one. I'm still feeling my way around this smoking business, and needed a menu to feed my sons 5 year old triplets after school tomorrow, so I decided I'd try and whoop up some chicken.  Picked up two...

    Unforgivabl e

I smoked my first ever, anything, pork butt, in my first ever smoker. . .Got so carried away with it that I forgot the Q-view. I used Jeff's Naked Rub, cooked it at around 250, for 9 1/2 hours, to an internal of 200.  Double foiled it at 165 internal, spritzed with a little apple juice. ...

    Long smokes?

An acquaintance of mine smokes his brisket for up to 20 hours, and gets an extremely good end product.  Does anyone else go for these, what seems to me, extreme long times??

    Rubs seem too strong

I'm brand new to using the smoker that I don't even own yet.  All of my attempts at ribs and brisket have been in the oven or on the bbq, experimenting with different cook times and temps.  I normally use something like "Famous Dave's" rib rub, or some rub that I got from Rendesvous.  The...

    Hey! From upnorth Minnesota

Weather's warming up a little, even though it's snowing right now, and someone on one of my outdoor forums posted a shot of his latest, smoked, pork butt. . .Nuff said about that.  Cruising through the Home Depot this afternoon and started drooling over their rack of smokers.  The only slow...
