    Finished composting

About the middle of June, I had one bin full of composted grass and leaves and the semi-finished compost in two bins on either side. The material in the foreground is wood chip mulch that is going in the first bin on the left. This material along with two loads of composted HM and composted...

Storage for potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, winter squash and such.

I have been increasingly dissatisfied with the storage of root crops in the fruit cellar. It is just a little to dry and warm for storage. I end up storing stuff under the benches that I no longer use. Well I pitched it all and built a 22” X 22” X 8’ storage bin for roots and tubers in the GH...

    Pork loin

I don't know about your location but the grocers are putting pork loins on sale at $1.99/lb. Everybody is buying hams for Easter but they have to do something with the rest of the pig.:sausage:

The older you are and the longer you have been married, the funnier this is.....

One lazy Sunday morning Jo-Rene and I were quiet and thoughtful, sitting around the breakfast table when I said to her unexpectedly, "When I die, I want you to sell all my stuff, immediately." "Now why would you want me to do something like that John?" she asked. "I figure a woman as fine as...

After laying on my back in the horsepiddle for a week, I’m back on the smoker.

After waiting for a break in the weather to try it out I decided to keep it in the shop year round. I installed a range hood directly above the smoker and vented it through the wall. This way I can smoke and not have to depend on the weather. Country ribs were my first smoke. I made the...

Steep part of the learning curve and I am a slow climber.

My offset FB is about 18" long and 16" in diameter. If I have a log about 8" in diameter, how many splits should I get for an ideal size.  John

Hi new guy from PA with a problem already

My name is John and I just got my smoker finished. As soon as the weather permits I will fire that sucker up. After seeing some of the beautiful photos here I know I'm going to have a problem. My wife refuses to eat pink meat let alone red meat. Can I simply add to the smoking time? If so how...

Adding an offset fire box to a vertical smoker.

Hi new to smoking here. I liked the idea of a vertical smoker with an off set fire box. I took the easy way out and here is a link to what I did. Hopefully you can help me avoid some pitfalls.  The photo below is what I ended up with.   John
