    Countertop mini-keg dispenser questions

Hi, A brother-in-law has a Krupps BeerTender countertop mini-keg dispenser that serves beer at a great temperature. A few questions: - Does it use other brand mini-kegs beside Heineken? - Are the mini-kegs refillable by home brewers? - If so, how do we sterilize them between batches? It...

    Porterhouse on the CGSP SFB

I have a few more bottles in the cellar. It's perfect now, so there might not be any left for the next steak. Not to worry though, I have plenty of other good wine for it. And a good beer would also work... as I'm gonna start brewing this week, maybe it'll be ready in time. Wife was never a big...

    "Fireball" my makeshift smoker!

Way to go! The method looks great, the food looks delicious. This is how many of us started. I'd used a Weber 22.5" kettle for smoking for the past decade; it was only in late 2008 that I finally decided to get a CGSP offset. The food doesn't come out any better, I can just produce much more...

BBQ Pittmasters or the BCS tritle game ?

I stopped watching after the first show... 'reality' TV just doesn't do it for me, I have better things to do

    BBQ Spots Shutting Down

We have them opening around here. Unfortunately, most ain't real 'Q. One opened just last month. I walked in and sniffed and said "Where's the smoker?" They replied "Oh, we don't do that here". Those that do good Q keep doing good business.

    is it possible

It's supposed to help even out temps across the entire smoke chamber. If that's important to you, reverse flow is somehing worth exploring. But some folk LIKE having disparities! Half the grill hotter than the other half can come in quite handy in some circumstances.

    Porterhouse on the CGSP SFB

Maybe next time. Taking pics of my food ain't at the top of my list when I can be eating it instead Sometime this spring we're gonna host a dinner where I make three or four of these. I'll definitely take pics of that and post 'em.

    Tony Roma's Ribs on Unwrapped

Fortunately, here in NYC we have a number of restaurants that do smoked ribs. There's a few on Long Island too. Of course, I don't really need to to to any of those places

    Porterhouse on the CGSP SFB

And yet again on Jan.1. It wasn't easy. Temps were around 12 degrees F, and the wind was blowing steady at 20mph with gusts more than double that. But I fired up the CGSP and put the aged porterhouse on the side firebox - and it came out awesome. Opened a '95 Margaux that I'd cellared some...

New Years Eve and/or New Years Day Menu's

Right now, it looks like a smoke-grilled aged porterhouse is the main course. Likely accompanied by artichokes, salad, and a nice old Bordeaux.

Crossbow review (can't think of a better place)

Do you dress in the skins of the creatures you've trapped? You know, a sorta urban chic Daniel Boone?

Crossbow review (can't think of a better place)

I'm not the one who mentioned banning guns, and would not do such a thing. In fact, I'm part of a small minority that seeks to do away with state laws (as in my own NY) banning full-auto, and seeks to do away with the 1986 federal regs and lower the transfer tax. Though I would retain the...

Crossbow review (can't think of a better place)

It's not "what if". It is REALITY. The statistics tell it clearly... you are far more at risk of getting killed or injured by a fellow hunter while gun-hunting than bow-hunting. And there's a good reason police no longer allow drunks behind the wheel. My principled support of the 2nd Amendment...

Crossbow review (can't think of a better place)

It's somewhat understandable. The skill required to use a bow keeps the average idiot from going into the woods and firing indiscriminately. When was the last time you heard of an 'accidental' killing of another person during bowhunting season? Compare that to rifle season, when across the...

What is your smoking project for 2010?

So far, the only thing I've not done smoke-wise is a cold smoke. I want to make something like the ProQ cold smoke generator, but I've not yet found a good source for the steel mesh... I really don't want to have to order one from England.

    Thinking about starting to brew

Fortunately that minimum equipment is.... minimal. A pot, a bucket, a long spoon, a hydrometer, an airlock blowoff valve. The crucial component is sterility. Keep the bacteria out, follow the instructions, and you'll likely get decent beer. Got my kit! Will start my first batch sometime in...

Crossbow review (can't think of a better place)

Well.... now that I own one and they are on my mind, I'm of course looking more closely at what else is out there. Never would have imagined there'd be so many! There are a bunch of custom items. Some are ridiculous fantasy-looking things, some look pretty good. As far as production crossbows...

    how did santa treat y'all?

Santa treated me very well! First off, I got to play a church gig. Got the call two days before the show. GOt there an hour prior, went over the stuff with the bandleader... it went very well. Lotsa fun; I hope that happens more in the future. Then on Xmas itself, I got to give some great...
