Got the chimney on and the thermometers. Just need to make the guards for the thermometers yet then the exterior should be near done (minus the firebox door/dampers). I'm still hoping to have it done by the end of April. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the comments guys. Joe, The reason I haven't closed in the fire box yet is because I'm still designing it. I'm going to have it laser cut and I'm just finishing up the placement of the dampers. Hoping to have it on by the end of the month. Might be overkill but it should work out great.
The best way to get the proper seal with silicone would be to close the door when the silicone has just been put on (still soft). You'd have to put something on the firebox body though so you don't glue you lid shut. I've heard of guys smearing Vaseline on the area where the silicone would mate...
