It looks like you lit both ends of the pellet tray, or is that an illusion? Full tray should give you around 12 hours of smoke if you light one end. Looks good!
I have the same unit and have no problems. Keep it out of the wind, is the best advice I can give.

I can only add that I used a pan and it was too close to the back wall sensor and it screwed up my remote temp readings on my MES 30!! A newbie learning experience form sure!
At Thanksgiving,I compared the plastic pop up to a digital temp probe and there was a 20 degree difference. Bird in oven plastic popped at 180 degree and dry as heck!! Butterball brand doesnt use a pop up for that very reason!
The last few times I used my MES 230G, I preheated to 275 then after putting the meat in I reset to the temp I wanted to smoke (225) I figured it would get back up to the 225 quicker once the door was opened and the cold meat was put it.

Congratulations on the smoker. I would recommend you cover the bottom drip tray and top of the chip cover with foil and change if every smoke. I also dont use the water pan so it is removed. You will appreciated the pellet tray also!!
