I have the 30" Gen 1 model with the stainless steel front and window. I use the AMNPS all the time now as well for hot and cold smokes.
My only regret is I wish I had the 40" for more room.
This seems to be the one with most favorable reviews. Gen 1 with the top vent vs the side vent.
I have the same style except with the glass window. Love it!
Another thing I do is load the AMNPS and put it in without lighting it while the MES comes to temp. I put a few wood chips in just to get some smoke going. When the MES is up to temp I add the meat and light the AMNPS and put it back in. It seems to dry the pellets out a bit prior to...
Where is the AMNPS located in the MES? Sounds like airflow issues.... I have the same rig and found I can't keep it lit on the bottom rails so I put it on the first rack above the water pan.
On some days with no breeze I have had bad luck too - so I put a small fan blowing on low across...
Welcome Mike. This is a great forum for recipes and tips on smoking food.
I had the electric version of the GS40 for a while and then switched to electric.
I would recommend doing some dry runs first to practice getting the right amount of smoke. You're looking for thin blue not...
We made this in the fraternity A LOT. Mix all of this in one of those large Gatorade coolers you see on the sidelines of a football game:
2 handles of vodka (the cheaper the better)
750ML bottle of grain
2 cans of powder Kool Aid (red)
1 can country time pink Lemonade powder
2 2L Sprite...
3-2-1 method seemed to work great with butcher paper. Going in the cooler now wrapped in foil.
The AMNPS was awesome - I loaded a row and ha half it it burned TBS for a good 5 hours.
Tonight I'm giving the AMNPS a trial run (no meat). I used the blowtorch and heat-gun method to get it going and into the MES-30 to see how long a row will smoke on its own. I put it directly on the rack above the chip loader (Gen1) and took out the water pan. So far so good.
