    Power-out LED on continously

I wanted to see the LED power on from a farther distance on my MYPIN TA4. So I connected a generic panel mount LED between the SSR pin 3 and SSR pin 4, which should show (to me, at least) when the SSR is sending current to the heat element. It does, but it is on ALL THE TIME. Is this because...

    MYPIN TA4 SSR PROBLEM

I am setting up an MES30 using a MYPIN TA4 SSR as the controller. The actual MES30 is rewired and set aside while I concentrate on setting parameters for the PID. During all this, I am using a 110vac fan as the load and with a K-type probe. The wiring is 'generic' for the typical PID, SSR...

    CONNECTING K-PROBE WIRES

I am awed by the sheer knowledge and practical experience you continue to display! I am made painfully re-aware of just how small my little cocoon world really is and your background is in just one of the several technical fields out there! OK, negative wire/contact should be MAGNETIC and...

    I'm on my second MES...

PAS--I cannot answer specifically as I am not familiar with the MES 30 with a 700w element. And I assume the shroud you refer to is the pellet holder and smoker tray assembly. If so, I think they can be easily removed with the 3 outside screws holding that assembly in place, allowing easy...

    CONNECTING K-PROBE WIRES

A huge thank you to Sigmo, mosparky, radioguy and JckDaniel 07 for your input. This reply will likely be rambling and without order since I need to acknowledge points and comment on several items. Sigmo, my compliments on a scholarly and well-done response. It is absolutely not boring and I...

    CONNECTING K-PROBE WIRES

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun with this but the wire is long enough to allow snipping off the few inches I need to complete the connection. I have the K-type male and female connectors already.

    CONNECTING K-PROBE WIRES

I knew I had read of some admonishment on this but memory dims with time! You have outlined it very clearly and I am so glad you found the time to reply. This probe came with my MYPIN TA4 PID and is what senses the temp in the smoker to turn on/off the element. It goes into the back wall...

    CONNECTING K-PROBE WIRES

I'm converting my MES 30 to PID control. For convenience, I want to add a socket to the outside of the control box to plug in the probe, then complete the hook-up on the box insides to the PID terminals. There is something in my memory that indicates these tiny wires are resistance-sensitive...

    I'm on my second MES...

Both Bearcarver and tallbum will be invaluable to you. I'd strongly support going with a PID and tallbum's iconic article on converting to one makes it easy. Your question regarding MES power is one I've become rather acquainted with; see my post Heating Element replacement--but which one...

    Help a rookie!

Agree--For this purpose vinegar is vinegar and I'd use whatever I had on hand--or buy the cheapest. The smell, which I associate with clean, would surely be gone after a thorough heating. Anyway, it is a common item in many, many marinade recipes and undetectable in the finished meat.

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

I almost over-looked this one! I still have 2 or 3 feelers out on the "parted-out" elements --mostly to check out if they have male spade connectors. It may be that there is an easy work-around for that problem, which has become such an insurmountable monster of a beast to me, but if so I...

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

Being a licensed Electrical Contractor I ran two 20 amp 120 volt circuits to my back patio. Now I can use both electric smokers at the same time no problem. HT HT--A wise move that creates a perfect setting for smokers. It's just too bad we can't all be this fortunate!

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

Another word to the wise if using a 1500watt element. The amps pulled for 1500 Watts will be 12.5 Amps on a 120 Volt outlet. That is getting pretty close to 15 amps which is the limit for the breaker to flip. In theory you have up to 14.9 amps to use on that breaker (provided the breaker holds...

Posts like this are probably one of the best features of this forum. It outlines a very real and knotty problem that faces any member who has an inkling to pursue an idea that has not been covered before. Right up there with it are all the detailed step by step procedures someone has taken...

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

The elements have spade ends that run high temp wire both to the controls and to a ceramic block. I eliminated the wires to the controls and added high temp wires from the neutral and hot on the ceramic block and ran them out the warmer cabinet and tied them to an extention cord with the female...

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

Yes Bear, I DO need your opinion! That's why I and so many others are on here. I have read so many of your posts and always respect your opinions. You have a way of getting to the point and without any BS--I like that. My experience in smoking is limited to a large, walk-in (almost!)...

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

Thanks cmayna! That's exactly what I want to do, but no, I have to think about complicating it by using a bigger heater!!

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

Yeah, it's quite a bit too big for the 30, which is only about 12 x 18.5. Other than that, it is everything I'm looking for, especially the male tabs on the wire ends. I appreciate your taking the time to show me.

    Heating Element replacement--but which one??

Wow! I never even thought of that! I suppose the hot plate heater must be set at it's max temp in order to not interfere with the PID actions--correct? Thank you for pointing out this new (to me) approach! Would involve revising my wiring approach but that's ok! EDIT: On re-read, I just...
