Kevin, what's a great price. You can get a new one from Wallyworld at the end of the season for $300. My son has one and for the most part loves it. The only issue he has had is with the controller and twice it shut off on him while in the middle of a smoke. You will get a much better flavor on...
You picked a very difficult smoker for your first one to learn on. The lower end offset smokers require constant attention and yes they are very difficult to maintain temps with. There are handful of mods you can research on this site. Starting with sealing all the leaks from which air can...
Were you shooting off hand or rested? If you were rested did you rest it on the stock or the barrel, it makes a huge difference. I understand the frustration I went through the same thing just a few years ago and I have been hunting deer for 45 years. It's easy to flinch, real easy. Sometimes I...
If you can get a solid 5-6 hours on the Weber kettle then just finish you brisket in the oven. There are no penalties for using the oven and you will still get that outstanding smoke flavor from cooking on coals.
Also once the sausage reaches your desired internal temp, mine is usually 152 degrees, then you will want to "bloom" it. Rinse it in cold water to stop the cooking process.
I love it!!! Truer words have never been written regarding BBQ. Too bad the "new smokers" won't get it until they have actually experienced it.
Strong work Ray!
In the owners manual I believe it tells you how many pieces of charcoal to use, my guess is for a 3-4 hour cook it will be about 30 pieces, use the minion method and use a half of a chimney to start it. If you don't know what the minion method is then go to youtube
No but a lot of great reviews on it on youtube. They sold out pretty quick then Covid hit. Not sure when they will ever be back in stock. Previously I think that Academy Sports was the only one selling them
I bought the same controller for my 22" WSM. What a game changer. I smoked 2 pork butts for 14 hours at 225 and the temps were rock solid. After pulling the butts off the smoker I was curious just how long it would go for at 225 and it lasted 20 hrs
I have heard nothing but positive feedback regarding lone star grillz. I am considering the 20" x 42" for myself.
Check them out on youtube, a lot of great information there.
