I saw your post Bladbuilder so I decided to try my hand at ham. didn't have the room for a full ham so I did a small test. here is how it worked out using Pops brine for 14 days.
this is my first try at CB. I used Pops brine. I found that it had a sweet taste. I think that I will use half the brown sugar next time.

I was leaning toward the external fire box as this will be for cold smoke only. I was looking at oak or white cedar. I agree with the 4x4x6, big enough for a couple of hams.
