Mixing meat and sides? And some other questions.

Thanks Al. A follow up on the Amazen, I  thought the electric smokers weren't supposed to use pellets??  I'll look at their website more but are there any good how-to's on this product?  I'm just not sure how it works.   Thanks.

Mixing meat and sides? And some other questions.

I have the 40" version with the control panel on the back of the top.  I have only seasoned it as of now and have alot going on this weekend so it'll be at the very least the following weekend before i can use it.   Still haven't decided what my first smoke should be (kinda tired of chicken, in...

    First time smoking. Ham?

This is a bit more of a general question but here goes.   Got a 40" Masterbuilt electric smoker for christmas.  Finally had the chance to season it this past weekend.  Would like to try smoking a ham because that's what my wife likes.  So, it will be my first time smoking as well as first time...

    Ideas for first smoke?

Sill working on modding my COS but I'd like to get some ideas on what my first smoke should be.  I was kinda thinking ribs using the 3/2/1 method.  I know I'll be out there adding wood/lump and adjusting intake and smokestack a little more than those with higher priced smokers but I really want...

    How to install stove rope?

Well, one of the pieces of rope came off when I went to season my grill. Not sure I can reapply the cement due to how runny it is.  If I took the lid back off and placed it on its side then I could.   Would the red rtv gasket maker attach the rope to the side?  That would be easier and I still...

    Char Broil offset smoker/grill questions?

Seasoning is going OK.  One bad thing is the stove rope piece I installed on the right side pretty much came off.  I'll decide whether to re-glue it or maybe get something else.  Wonder if I can use the red RTV stuff in place of the cement.  Anyone happen to know if the rtv would suffice to gold...

    Char Broil offset smoker/grill questions?

Sorry, thanks.  I guess I was just curious for others that have baffles, etc.  If I am having one custom made, what would the measurement need to be.  Meaning length, width, and even the 90 degree or 45 degree on the side of the firebox.   i am not certain I'm getting one made but I ave some...

    Char Broil offset smoker/grill questions?

just bumping this again.  Still haven't scored a baffle plate but would still like some specific measurements if I can possibly get one made.  If not, I may try and find some pans, etc.  Also, I put on some stove rope to help seal the lid.  I think it'll help but I may still have a little...

    How to install stove rope?

OK, for future reference that seems to do much better.  It's still not perfect because I guess the stove has a "channel" the glue/rope can sit in whereas the grill surface is just flat.   It did one side at a time and the last side is drying.  The real test will be when I put the lid back on...

    How to install stove rope?

I bought some stove rope at Lowes and followed the instructions to install it.  Left it over night and checked it this morning and it didn't seem to be holding very firm.  Grill is new so no grease, dirt, etc.  Should I have sanded down the paint/metal before I applied the adhesive??   I'll...

    Lighting Charcoal

I have a weber chimney and I also have some of the lighter cubes.  Never tried to just start the cubes by themselves.  I normally still do the newspaper in the chimney but I throw a cube amongst the charcoal lumps.  I hate the newspaper ash though.  So, I can just light the cube through the...

    Char Broil offset smoker/grill questions?

Also, I might have just found a possible resource for a baffle plate.  So, do I need one with holes???  Just not sure why i see some with holes and some without.  I know what the purpose of the holes are, I just don't know which is preferred.   What measurement would I need?

"Ducting down" to grill from smokestack

I just got the same 1280 grill/smoker.  Can you show pics of your finished baffle?  Just not sure I quite understand.  You said you used aluminum foil and also some cookie sheets??   Good luck on the large cook you're doing.   Thanks.

    Char Broil offset smoker/grill questions?

Thanks sarge. Nice idea.  What size are the pans and what material?  I'm always concerned with getting the wrong kind of material and it leaking harmful chemicals/odors.   Also can you elaborate on your last sentence?  You don't use the grates that came with it but instead use some rack??

    Char Broil offset smoker/grill questions?

Just got a new 1280 CB grill.  Not top of the line but it'll serve my purpose for a few years hopefully.  It was a fathers day gift so I just had time to put it together.  I sealed the fire box top and bottom together with red RTV and used RTV  in between grill and firebox.  Also, used the RTV...

I call it the 20/20 Charcoal basket...

Thanks.  just made one of these for my new Char Broil offset smoker.  It was a gift for fathers day so I'm not complaining.   Anyway, I went with your measurements and made a cardboard mock up.  It fit fine.  When bending the expanding metal, I was a tiny bit wide.  So, i had to put some clamps...

    Offset grill/smoker upgrades and mods.

Oh, forgot one thing.   On the side of the firebox, the door where you would open to clean out ash, etc.  How would you seal around the door?
