A quick look at the fan I used during a smoke yesterday. Seemed to work, no China Syndrome. Obviously a PITA to remove the panel. Just removing the panel obviously reduces the heat buildup.
As I lost the sun in the early evening, I had to use an AC charger.
I got it fired up to 265F today with a non-GFCI outlet. I shut it off and removed the panel. The connector was too hot to touch. I think if I left that panel off during cooks and ran a fan on it (I have a solar charger I use a DC fan with to cool the Auber) it would prevent further China...
Thanks I'll check out those connectors for the next China Syndrome. :emoji_grimacing: These are the ones I got that melted: Ace Female Disconnect.
I didn't solder them, but I did dremel the spade with a brush bit for better connectivity and less resistance.
I need to get a higher rated...
The problem is, that connector I replaced had melted after a single smoke. It's a fire hazard, although it just sits on my cement patio. I'm ready to just chuck it and buy a Trager or a Weber pellet. I truly hate Masterbuilt and I will tell everyone I know for the rest of time what a PoS company...
So, after doing the rewire and it working OK last time I did a smoke, this morning I tried to fire it all up and it kept tripping the outlet breaker. The Auber alone worked fine, but as soon as I plug in the Masterbuilt, the breaker pops. Man I hate this company. Anyway, before I throw it off a...
OK, looks like you have to use multi-step mode to power the smoke generator.
Again I implore Auber to hire a non-engineer to design the software for this unit. :emoji_expressionless: The end users are not doing scientific experiments and probably don't have advanced EE degrees.
Yes it works...
Since I am using Masterbuilt's smoke generator with a normal AC cord, I am using a 5-15r to C14 adapter to connect to the Auber. Probably should have tested this before I started the smoke. Just plugged the generator into a regular outlet.
I'm doing the ol'...
I have the WiFi Auber.
I can't get any power from the smoke generator outlet. Is there some setting to turn it on? I assumed it was always-on.
I am using non multi-step.
These Auber people need to hire a non-engineer to write a manual.
TIA.
Yeah great idea about the sunbrella. I already have a couple portable solar panels for the beach. I bought a USB fan that I'll put on the bottom of the Auber and keep it in the shade, with the fan running from solar. I could run it off of the Auber's power, but why not use free energy?
Funny I...
I posted my report in the wrong place. :emoji_disappointed_relieved: Anyway the Auber worked great with my Masterbuilt slave cabinet. :emoji_sweat_smile:
I noticed the Auber has a heatsink on the bottom. The Auber is black and out in the sun (and on top of my smoker). Has anyone tried adding a...
Did my first smoke with the Auber. Worked great. Thanks for all who helped save my Masterbuild from becoming a landfill resident.
One thing: Is there some way to change the names of the Auber's probes? I couldn't figure out a way in the app. :emoji_thinking:
Tri Tip:
I bought it from Masterbuilt directly because Amazon was out of stock at the time. And it's been like a year. Obviously my bad not buying from Amazon and testing it within a 30 day return window.
Anyway, I'll do an autopsy and report my findings.
So I bought one of those Masterbuilt Slow Smoker cold smoke units, but it arrived DOA ☠. Masterbuilt customer "Service" is of course terrible. Anyway, has anyone tried to resurrect/rewire one of these?
I do currently use an A-MAZE-N pellet tray, but I did buy the MES and would like to see how...
OK, I bypassed the control unit by connecting the molex-type connectors, and plugged it in, and the smoker heated right up. :emoji_fire:
Examining the control board, you can see what appears to be heat damage at the solder points for the lone MOSFET on the board, so yeah that MOSFET was...
My Masterbuilt 20075315 is as dead as Thomas Jefferson. Won't turn on at all. Masterbuilt support is of course worthless, and the controller is no longer made. Not having read anything, I opened the back panels and found some severely corroded connectors and fixed them, but now having read these...
