Smoker build??
I've read in this forum and others that you should not use a tank that was used for petroleum products ( fuel oil, oil, kerosene, gas, etc.....). Steel is porous, like the pores on our skin, and the petroleum fills the pores, almost like the steel absorbs it. You can never get all of it out of...- wanbli

When I worked in the grocery business I hung out with the meat cutters. An old timer told me instead of buying "rib eye" steaks most butchers and cutters took "chuck eyes". He said the only thing seperating the chuck and rib sections was a fine line of fat/gristle and they cost half of the price...- wanbli

creating my own rub?
Paprika is a mildly sweet pepper that can be anywhere from mild to hi-medium hot. Not as hot as cayenne, but adds some heat, flavor ( if fresh ) and color to your rub. I agree with Fire It Up about growing conditions and the strain of pepper used. Here's an idea to check your paprikas flavor...- wanbli

I just recieved an e-mail a couple of days ago that said to use Listerene mouthwash as a mosquito controller. Ribs with Q'view
We got a 3 pack of spare ribs yesterday after our visit with my mother. My wife asked me this mornig why the smoker was just sitting there. lol. So a little butt rub ( on the ribs ) : into the smoker they go after 3 hours just sauced ( 5 hours into them ) on the cutting board... -

The only thing about those pics that concerns me is it looks like galvanized pipe. I've always heard you keep galvanized out of the cooking area. No exceptions. I was in the grills and supplies section of Home Depot the other day and they have these aluminum sheets with holes in them for grilling veggies and smaller stuff on. 2 Firsts, My 1st Brisket and 1st Q'view
The smoker was desgned and built by a guy in Grand Rapids, Mich. I found it on Craigslist. It is definetely different but I like it. I used less than 4 lbs of lump charcoal and I believe about 6 or 8 pieces of wood to hold the temp for 12 hours. I think that's pretty economical fuel consumption...
