I tried a couple of things and finally found what I was after. First, I let it sit a full 24 hours. That gave it a slightly more yeasty flavor. The key was in the second batch. I added about 1/3 cup of sugar to the dry mix. Mixed and baked everything else exactly the same. It gave it exactly the...
I'll look for some of that at the store next time I'm in. I think I'm going to mix a batch up tonight to cook tomorrow evening. I'm trying to think of something I could add right before I put it in the oven. I could mix some sugar in as I'm folding in the four, but that just doesn't seem right.
I've made this bread and others similar, but I'm wanting to add a little more flavor to it. I like how simple and forgiving it is, and quick to bake as well.
My question is, would it be possible, and safe, to replace the water with buttermilk? Seems it would give it a nice flavor, but I'm...
If it was placed back in the oven for a bit once I get it there, would the skin crisp back up? Or does that run the risk of over cooking or some other problem?
If I'm smoking a pork butt or ribs that will be eaten elsewhere, I just wrap them in foil, put them in the cooler and take off. What do you do with a turkey? I've never smoked a turkey or chicken that I didn't eat shortly after. Seems wrapping them in foil for a while would cause the skin to get...
Hey Link, do you pre heat the skillet as well, or just the oven? I've always been taught with cornbread to pour the batter into a hot skillet to prevent sticking.
Thanks
Yes, I meant the legless variety. I wound up buying the 5 quart that I had been looking at. It is around 10" x 4". Seems to be a good size for what I wanted it for. If I find it to be too small for things down the road, I'll pick up the larger 7 quart.
The 5 quart is about 10" and the 7 is about 12". Both are about 4" deep. I know on skillets going by the # can get a little confusing. It's not all standard. I've got a #12 that I fry fish in and have used it for gumbo. Like you say, it can be hard on the seasoning but it always seemed to hold...
I was looking at the Lodge dutch ovens at Walmart tonight. I have a couple of large outdoor ovens, but now I'm looking for one to use indoors. They sell the 5 quart and a 7 quart.
Does anyone have experience with either of these particular ovens? I would prefer the smaller size if it would be...
“If I win the A-MAZE-N-PELLET-SMOKER Contest, I plan to smoke three little piggies and maybe even a big bad wolf this summer."
Anybody know of a good wolf rub???
I'm going to go look at them and see. I used to have all the time I needed for smoking or anything else. But now a few years later being self employed and having young twin boys, the day just doesn't go as far once did. That's the appeal of the electric to me.
I really do appreciate all of the...
I wouldn't spend $350 on it for sure if I didn't have the gift cards. Problem is, they don't sell any brand but the Masterbuilt there. I know I like smoking food, just not sure about with the electric variety. If I buy one of these there I'm not out much cash if any. If I like smoking with an...
