About 50% thru my 250 build and have unusual issue with my CC door. I had to remove a valve at top to position door where I wanted and for some reason it sprung only this location. All 4 corners are flush and bottom center actually sprung in about 1/4”. Hole isnt big enough to get a
Clamp in so...
There is benefit of curved inside but you are using $1k worth of steel for a $1 job on outside. If want to use curved put sheet of 3/8” up for sale for $800-$1k or trade for sheet 1/4” and 1/8”. DONT use that 3/8” for outer shell.
Use 1” insulation for pipe inner. Will be 1” in 4 places but a...
That is way overkill and extremely heavy. Build square box out of 3/8” with no insulation and use 1/4” for collector on stack side. 1/4” CC and that pit will last lifetime
Insulation will depend on few things. Where do you live and what is FB metal thickness. Warmer weather and thicker metal less insulation you will need. I have 3/8” FB and 2” insulation. I should have gone 1” as I meed heat to escape more as so much gets trapped in thicker metal
As far as RF and...
Recently playing around with new offset build and noticed with current outdoor temps at about 100f I cant keep temps down. Handful of coals will keep offset running at 300F but no luck in getting down 275. I am running 2” insulated box with 3/8” inner steel and 1/8” outer.
Anyone have shade...
Agreed on waste of space. I went through same decision and bought flat rack with sides off amazon. Keeps plenty of wood handy near smoker and its currently mixed with oak and cherry. Easy to get access to both. You can see in background here
Done!
I have to re do cerakote on bottom because I found out clear coat doesnt stick to it but thats no biggie
Copper and torch patina on tank with two coats high temp clear. Only thing left os shelf and will do that after I get house sold
Really like look especially with black wheels
Was able get frame and FB cerakoted today. Also got patina done on stack. Tomorrow will apply copper patina to tank with some torch affects near handle. Once dried hit it all with clear coat and new set of wheels and we are done
A lot of fun is learning things as you go. Make sure you have A way of accurately reading temps and familiarize yourself with fire management. Other than that light a fire and throw some meat on
Leave it together for cook. This helps protect flat during cooking process. You can separate once flat is done with no issues and I have done many times. Wrap flat then sprinkle some more rub on cut part from point while it finishes
Welcome to homemade pit building. IMO entry at Grate level is best as it gets you more even temps and allows almost all of grate to be used
In process of building mine I spoke with a few owners of high end pit companies. Every single one said not to follow calculator as it relates to exhaust...
Thick slices for sammies
Cubed for chili
When done put in crock pot with juices until shreds for tacos
Vac seal and put in refer for 24 hours. Then use slicer ultra thin for sammies
Slice thin and use in homemade sushi
Able to test changes today and works extremely well. Also got shelf built and installed. Thats it for fabrication. Now just prep exterior for finishing and this project is over
Update on build. Since I couldnt get FB side hot enough I removed vertical insulated wall and replaced with a 3/8” piece that was cut to sit 1/4-1/2” above grate level. Hoping this balances out temps. Also got handle mounted as well as damper handles. Built grates out of 1/2” round bar. Plan to...
