I did a smoke the other day, it was a bit chilly, around 35 with a slight breeze, it seemed to take forever to get up to temp, and then I put a 3 lb meatloaf in there and although it got up to 155 IT at around 4hrs, I was honestly a bit worried about it because it really never got back up to 220...
I have a 120v 1550W finned heater in my fridge that's about the same size as yours (14x23x36. I installed mine a little different than most, I cut a hole in the bottom of both the inside and outside and then sunk a deep stainless steel pan in it, so it sticks out of the bottom, then got 2-4" BBQ...
Ok guys, I think I answered my first question, I remembered that you cant use the finned heater at full power unless theres forced air over it, so I cut the power back to 64% per another post on here using the same element. but now it seems to be taking a LONG time to heat up, Im just giving it...
Hey guys it's been quite awhile since I posted anything, but I finally got back to work on my 40s GE fridge conversion.
I've got all of the major things built, just waiting on some silicone and a door seal. Hoping to be able to use it this weekend, if the AMNPS shows up.
I finally was able to...
That should be plenty of time! In reality I don't think there's much need for smoke the whole time something is cooking, at least for those of us who are only doing it for ourselves. Now competition guys are different.
I'm guessing you're using the big tube, how high above your element is it?
The biggest question I had was how long will the AMAZEN burn inside the smoker? I know alot of guys run it outside in the mailbox thing but that seems like more of a hassle to me. I want it KISS
I think Ill have everything you will need for sale. I'm about 99% decided on going with a Pellet pro because of the ease of set and forget, I don't have time to babysit things. I have a 1500 watt element IIRC (Ill double check) and the Auberins PID, heat sink, and both thermocouples. None of it...
Thanks for your replies Mike, to answer your concerns, Yes I plan on putting 2- 1.25 pipes with ball valves under the bottom of my pan to bring air around the heater. And I bought what I would call the build your own system from Auberins, Its the same thing as the plug and play system but Im...
My fridge is pretty small so Im trying to get as much useable space as possible, so Ive sunk my heater element down into the bottom of my fridge using a 6" deep stainless steel pan, then Im going to use a heat SS heat deflector right at the top and then Im using another SS tray that's 3/4" tall...
Getting closer to being done on my fridge build, Im wondering about distance from my heater element to the first food rack. Im thinking about going about 5 inches in between each rack in case I want to do a lot of ribs.
Thanks for the reply, I have another question for you, how far is it from your element to the first rack that you use for food? Ive been searching around on here but haven't found any answers.
Got my fridge out and stripped down, all the compressor and lines were already removed, got the inner liner out and found the insulation was cardboard, so went and got some Roxul, at the moment Im waitng for my uncle to cut the plastic trim pieces from some stainless sheets we had laying around...
I and looked at the fridge today, its a General Electric, probably from the mid to late 50s guessing by the style. Its been used for a little bit of storage for years but nothing really important. I would really like to use an AMNPS or similar for smoke and Ive seen where using the mailbox mod...
Im Dane, and Im a totally new guy at smoking meat, Love eating it and tired of having to go somewhere else to eat it. I farm for a living so I have plenty of access to meat, and I cant think of something that tastes better than a cut of meat that I raised, being smoked in a smoker that I built...
Im planning on building a fridge smoker, Ive never smoked anything before, thought about buying a smoker but I need one that doesn't take much babysitting, so an electric one is what I looked at, but the $$ for one is more than I want to spend, plus I like building things and while I have time...
