i'm fairly new to smoking meats. i'm planning to smoke a portion of a pork loin (about 3 lbs.) on monday as a 4th of july meal. anybody have any suggestions on a good rub for a pork loin or should i not use a rub?
looking for some advice/ideas here as i'm new to smoking meats. i have a ham in the freezer right now that i'm thinking about putting on the smoker this weekend. this would be the first thing i would have smoked since starting (got the smoker for christmas 2010). just wondering what wood works...
just wondering if anybody has any recipes for marinades or bbq sauces that includes beer as an ingredient? i brew my own beer and had the thought of using some of it for marinades and sauces.
i personally like hickory park the best. it's a 30 minute drive but i think it's worth it.

a good homebrew for me (or any good beer if i'm out of homebrew)! when it's cold outside, i'll sometimes go for a southern comfort and pepsi in place of the beer.
i used to work 3rd shift so i was getting off work at 7:00 in the morning. so, to me, it was like having a beer in the evening.
there are bar & grill type places in the town i live in in iowa that open as early as 6:00-7:00 in the morning. at the end of the work week, i'd go to one of these...
