    Dang Squirrels

You can try spicy bird seed. Mammals react badly to capsaicin but birds are not affected by it. Planting peppers like habaneros or jalapenos help too.

    Chewy bacon

You got the good info here. All I can add is do a few more bellies, use one standard (like Pop's brine)try different methods of restin / drying and slicing. Take notes of what you've done. Lastly, don't compare your bacon with the store bought stuff. Thanks for reminding me, I have two bellies...

    another rabbit hole!

I'm in this boat... I bottled my "sauce" at just below a simmer into boiled bottles so I know it's sterile. Now, being my first go around at bottling, I tried some of both and they are really good. I let them set for a week and then some and here's what I have.

Oxtail Soup - smoke roasted over open fire

    Irrigation for raised beds

Soaker hose and simple elbows, tees and caps can make for a very custom setup. Finding some bulk hose instead of the hoses with fittings will be a good step since you'll want to cut it to custom lengths to fit your garden and branch out to drip near the plants. They also are easily removed...

    Dang Squirrels

Squirrels need to eat. Feed them regularly to earn their trust then give them a little dietary supplement to help them sleep. Hopefully you can remove them from their resting place before they stink. I put raw peanuts in a feeder out on my back fence. I have no intention of eliminating the...

    Blackstone Griddle has arrived!!!

Hit the nearest Goodwill or whatever thrift shop. Any decent metal lid will work as long as it has the height and diameter to cover the grub. You're gonna love that griddle! Take your time seasoning.. Clean the griddle very well with soap and water then clean it again. I suggest no less than 5...

Got me a new smoking buddy

It's all fun and games until that claw comes from under a door after your sock which is attached to your foot. Our former cat Tom Thumbs would jump up on our backs and sit on our shoulders. It didn't hurt when he was a kitten but I'm glad he gave up the habit.

My first jerky...when to pull out

Don't be your own judge. Your jerky looks great! Give it a day or so to rest then have a neighbor or co-worker try it. I'll bet they want more.

    Beef heart pastrami

Me too. I've made pastrami out of different cuts of beef but never a heart. Can't see why it wouldn't work, but I would slice it very thin.
