And Yet Another...Refrigerator Conversion! (Electric heat and PID Temperature Control)

Bert, 220 VAC technically doesn't use the white (neutral) wire.  The solid state relay controls one leg of the 220 circuit (so basically it is switching 120 VAC).  However, I am using a neutral wire in this set-up, since the PID controller is a 120 VAC unit.  HOpe that helps! I really need to...

    freezer conversion questions......

I agree...  Some of that foam stuff is bad.  I am....puzzled as to why all of his smoking will be less than 180 degrees.

    freezer conversion questions......

I used a high temp, food grade, silicone on my refrigerator conversion. http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/105239/and-yet-another-refrigerator-conversion-electric-heat-and-pid-temperature-control   It is visible in one of the pictures where I"m attaching the gasket to the door.   I...

And Yet Another...Refrigerator Conversion! (Electric heat and PID Temperature Control)

Josh, Thanks for the reminder.  So far I have had several great smokes in the General E. I am still doing some minor tweaking...and learning.  I am going to move one of the heating elements to the front (they are currently stacked in the rear).  I am hoping that will give me more even heat.  I...

    Pepper prep Poll for ABT's

I prefer to remove the membrane and seeds.  I usually use a small 1/8 tsp stainless steel measuring spoon for the removal process.  It's small size works well and the edges of the spoon are fairly sharp...so it cuts well.  I haven't thought about a tater peeler? Hummm....  I like a moderate...

New to the group and have some questions?

Jaye, I am 98% complete with my General E conversion.  I fired him up last evening for the first time.  I have been amazed at the PID temperature controller.  I have not posted an update yet...since firing him up...but will be doing that tonight or tomorrow.  He's been holding a steady 300...

And Yet Another...Refrigerator Conversion! (Electric heat and PID Temperature Control)

Josh, I had thought about doing the same (extension cord) thing...excpet that I need 4 wires instead of just two hots and a ground.  I need the neutral for the 110 input on the PID (I have no interest in using the ground as a common/neutral...hence the fourth wire).  My other concern was that...

And Yet Another...Refrigerator Conversion! (Electric heat and PID Temperature Control)

...A-Maze-N Smoker is getting its first run in the grill… I have been reading all the great posts about it...got so excited that I just couldn’t stand it any longer and had to light it up.  ...as I'm typing this I'm thinking...such a waste of good smoke...just sitting in the grill... ...

Here's My Fridge Build: Mid build

Josh, My fridge does/did not have those plastic guides on the bottom.  They were on the sides and back and held the racks in place.  I removed the plastic guide/nuts and pushed the threaded stud out/back through the cabinet.  I filled the holes with the SU5005.  I had four studs on the roof...

    Pics from Tuscaloosa Alabama

eman, Thanks for the link.  I have friends in Tuscaloosa.  The lost their business...but they  are OK.  Yes...it is amazing that there were not more deaths...considering the total destruction.  Such a sad event.  I heard last evening about the 25 people that perished in the Huddle House...hard...

And Yet Another...Refrigerator Conversion! (Electric heat and PID Temperature Control)

Josh, Thanks! My Old Country Smoker had similar clips to hold each shelf in place while they are extended.  I like that.  I will be using an A-Maze-N Smoker.  It will sit in the right front corner and will be protected from drips.  It will also be shielded on on the two open sides to keep the...

Here's My Fridge Build: Mid build

Josh, Looks good!  Glad to hear that everything is working.  Am I understanding that you do not have a frame around the expanded metal?  If not, you may want to see how much they flex by adding two or three gallon milk jugs to a shelf... Since we have basically the same refrigerator, when you...

And Yet Another...Refrigerator Conversion! (Electric heat and PID Temperature Control)

I have finished the shelf rack guides and they are all installed.   I welded a small piece of angle on the top of each shelf bracket to support the shelf while it is pulled out. This will help to prevent accidental spills and thrills!      I’ve installed the temperature probe in the rear of...
