When it rains and you NEED to smoke

Not sure I follow your coathook system. Do you have pics? Trying to better understand. Thanks! Also, thanks for the positive vibes on the shelves. Glad to have helped come up with the idea.

When it rains and you NEED to smoke

When I saw rain in the forecast I initially planned to cut a hole in the wall and run a permanent vent outside. Got shot down by the “boss lady”, but I think I’ll be able to sneak it in for the next rain.

When it rains and you NEED to smoke

Following your step-by-step for the smoke tonight. Know you didn’t do your’s overnight, but I think I’m setup to make it work. Will post the results tomorrow. Thanks!

When it rains and you NEED to smoke

Having a holiday gatering tomorrow and planned to smoke two pork shoulders overnight. The forecast in Houston calls potential flooding. Decided to improvise.... smoking inside the garage tonight. Got my CO alarm on deck just Incase!

needle valve parts list for masterbuilt, need confirmation

This is the exact setup I had. The valve was within arms reach of the smoker and I had no issues “eyeballing” the flame if needed.

    New regulator

I don’t understand how everyone is using these high pressure regulators with success. Why not just keep the original regulator and place a needle valve in-line of the hose?

needle valve parts list for masterbuilt, need confirmation

I’d spare all the connectors and just purchase the needle valve and a propane hose extension (3/8” flare on either end of the hose). Place the needle valve between the two hoses and your done. You’ll get precise control with the convenience of a longer hose. Did this on my old propane smoker it...

    $40 Amazon Cart —>> MES40 Cart

I can definitely take pics this evening when I get home, and can provide some measurements for you. This cart is very sturdy, I moved it around quite a bit over the weekend. Also gave it a few shakes to test and see it there is potential for tipping over. So far so good.... I am also working on...

    $40 Amazon Cart —>> MES40 Cart

Thank you sir! I’m really happy with how it turned out for what I have into it. Can’t wait to add more to this thread as I come up with new shelves and storage ideas.

    $40 Amazon Cart —>> MES40 Cart

Slim as in narrow or as in the construction? As for the construction, it’s solid. I’m not wheeeling this thing across a yard. Just from my garage out to the driveway, but I’d bet I could move it a good distance if needed. I’m actually pretty impressed with the strength of the materials. Yes...

    $40 Amazon Cart —>> MES40 Cart

After looking at everyone’s cart builds and pricing out wood to build my own, I stumbled upon this nifty little cart from Amazon. The dimensions are perfect for a MES40. Almost like it was meant to be! I’ve got one shelf left that I’ll probably cut in half and use as shelves that face outward...

Bypass Surgery for the MES 30

Found a quick fix by pulling the disconnect plug form the control panel at the top of the smoker. I’ll be using the smoker with the PID the majority of the time, but if I want to run it normal. I can just plug that panel back in. Thanks for posting this solution!

Bypass Surgery for the MES 30

Just performed this procedure and hooked up the PID. Now every time the PID sends power to the burner the MES control board beeps. So now as it’s flickering the burner I get a bunch of beeps! Anyone else had this issue? It’s not the end of the world, just kinda annoying.

The history of the AMNPS and why you need one.

I ran the MES40 with the tube inside, it produced quite a bit of smoke and seemed to burn a little quicker than it should. I think this is due to the heat inside the MES. From there, I built a mailbox to run the tube in. It seemed to produce about the same smoke, maybe a little less. Although...

Bypass Surgery for the MES 30

Great. That reply is exactly what I'm looking for. Had planned to do a total bypass and hard wire the heating element to the power supply (based on another thread). Now, I think I will do this. My smoker is a MES40 Gen1. Figured I would get a 20amp switch to cover the larger heating element.

Bypass Surgery for the MES 30

With this switch in "bypass-mode" the MES controller could still be turned on correct? You would want to make sure you didn't try to turn the MES controller on simultaneously to running a PID, Correct?

Smoking 8% Injected Turkey without Brine Or Cure?

I’ve done two birds over the past couple weeks without brining. Spatchcocked them, threw some random seasonings on and smoked. Turned out great!

Should I bite the bullet for a PID?

Sounds great! Thanks sir. I have the Amaz’n tube and have been considering the 5x8 tray. From the start, I never even planned on using the chip loader in the MES. The tube and tray concept is excellent. I love how easy it is and how many varieties or chips there are. Just got the notice that...

Should I bite the bullet for a PID?

Welp, after further thought, consideration, along with reading your post, I pulled the trigger. I’m just too particular about having things just right. Plus it’s just fun to tinker with stuff. Thanks for the help everyone!
