Welcome. You will figure it all out with time. I started with the charcoal as a rookie and it was very stressful. I went to propane and that helped me keep my interest to continue smoking. -

Finally getting the hang of it!
The smoker type...only the most important thing that I forgot about! I currently am using the 34" smoke hollow propane model. My first was a charcoal but I was having a tough time with the temp. Not very good at managing the temp peaks and valleys. -
