Sorry bout quantity and quality, computer has been sick all a couple a days, its just  a bad day, everything that could screw up did. The camera's batteries started low and got worse, I had a rock in my shoe, the sun was in my eyes while trying to cook, etc etc etc.......

Ok, Pop said last week he'd had all the other red neats he could stand he needed BEEF!

Called the butcher (she's back to being butcher again store manager involved too many people. She sent me a couple a steaks at the T-Bone sale price. 7 lbs. of beef at 6.99/lb custom cut and the T's really look more like P's.

Wait, I wanta show ya that old tray.... When I was a kid it was "The" tray in the house, now I think its pretty neat like the old Coco~Cola trays. Nice isn't it!

I set a fire in the little pit (chuckles, it was almost to small for the two steaks), and rubbed the steaks. Shuffles thru the pictures looking for a rub with the magic black dust! That's Tatonka for anyone who has not tried it. If you have not yet tried it, don't waste your time get some. Its better on beef steaks than Caramel would be! And don't get me started on caramel again!

Its easy, Tatonka & Butter, it just doesn't get any better. Sure before its cooked, it looks sorta weird BUT after it cooked its mighty tastee! Believe me, I have been to three goat ropin's and a State fair, seen it all!

This pit affectionately know as "Mighty Moe" as grilled more chickens than the new fake Col. Sanders has eaten! Oh yeah, back to Moe.

FYI, I shouldn't say this but Moe was galvanized 40+ years ago and has been making great food for all that time. Course all my babies were born nekkid! <chuckles>

But remember, do use galvanized pits, the government says its bad for you. Moe sat in the back of my pickup long ago during my construction years. It holds 2 chickens halved perfectly. It was my first shot at wielding too!

Moving right along.......... Just above that pit, is my gang colors!

So it's steaks on the Barbie!! Do those steaks look happy or what? If we were in a movie Drive Inn theater, I would expect 'em to jump up and start dancing and singing, "Lets go out to the lobby!"

That's some fine smelling smoke, the charcoal I dumped pecan shells on .... that smoke!

Bear-View? Pictures today are really lousy!

Steak, baked potato (loads of butter), there is a salad there somewhere, and garlic bread. So I figure we'll be eating steaks tomorrow and the next day...>LOL

I don't work for Tatonka but its one of the best beef & steak rubs/spices I have ever had. Ask your mate to remember a bag when no one knows what you want for Christmas. Its good stuff.

OK, break is over now back into the computer!

    Thanks for dropping by.......

Thank you Sir, it was and will be delicious!

Strange thing was, I heard about it somewhere else, not at SMF. Then after trying it, I am like the devils advocate. MY Pop actually has a old spice shaker jar he has loaded that he uses on the table.  It really does accent the meat and doesn't try to cover it up or change it. I guess its that black color that makes me assume it would be over powering.

Its magic black dust. I bet its what Peter Pan really uses to fly. Reflecting on it, I would guess its another dust...LOL

Holy Cow (or steer), Kevin...that's one man-size beef steak!  Pretty hard to beat steak and taters, and with some garlic bread to kinda tie it all together, just about the perfect meal!

Completely agree about Tatonka Dust...its great on beef for sure!

    Thank you Red!

I was still full this morning, but ........... we had steak and eggs for lunch. I could have probably sold that out by the road for a .50 a plate and sold out. <Chuckles>

That Dust on steaks is just really great! Over the top, and I hate anything but salt and pepper on my steaks. If it needs something else its bad meat or prepared poorly.

I have to say its too big. But I am narrowing it down. This is a 1/2 thinker than the last. But I Hate getting a steak that is perfectly beautiful when bought. When getting home, throw it on the fire and it seems to wither and shrink till half the size you started with. Ewwwww...... Maybe those are healthy steaks, you know like 1% milk? 1% steaks. LOL

Yeppers and look at the size of that hunk of tenderloin on it! Glad the butcher is back......LOL
  14. Nice T-bones, how do you like them done?pased through a warm room, rear, med rear or done? I have been doing rib eyes myself med rear, I have a searing station but never use it because I can get the main unit up to 700 degrees using all 6 burners. I use grub rub for a base and a home made rub that everyone I grill for says is the best they ever tasted. I must say it is good. How ever I would like to try some of that stake dust you used, wonder if it's avalible here in Minnesota?
  15. Just looked up that stake dust. They make it in Nort Dakota that's next door to me, so I should be able to find it here.

I ordered mine from Mossys site, I think its called Owen's BBQ. Its really good. I highly recommend it, but don't forget how you do the steaks if they are good! There are so many different ways is because there are so many different tastes. I rub mine in butter so they will brown nicely and that outter fat crisps on the outside...

Done, depends were I am, good meat Med. Rare = knock off the horns, wipe the other end, and run it across the flame one time. Questionable meat source or someone else cooking, Medium rare with barely any pink in the middle.

I am NOT a beef person, I much prefer a chicken & seafood.... Its just me. I'm strange.

Hi REMSR...is that home made rub a recipe you'd be willing to share?

Like Foam said, the best way to get Tatonka Dust is on Mossy's website.  Here's the link:

    Thank you.

    Its just good stuff....
    Thanks Gary.

I sorta figure since I don't do much beef at all, when I do it, it shouldn't be hamburger. Besides these days ya need a second note on the homestead to afford it, well or live next to C Farmer.
