Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealer

  1. Has anyone tried the Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealer? I got one the other day (< $10.00) to vacuum seal leftover pulled pork. The price sure was right. It worked great but not sure how it compares to a food saver or how well it holds food for long-term storage. Any thoughts!

    Where do you get them?

  3. I got mine at Meijer's (like a Walmart) here in Indiana.

It is a hand held unit that uses special zip-lock bags (that you can reuse) that have a port to vacuum out the air. Check it out on Amazon.com. It worked great on the pulled pork that I kept in the refrigerator. Just not sure how it will hold up for long term storage in the freezer. Seems to work as good as what I have seen from a Food Saver but for only $10.00.

I have had trouble with mine staying sealed. You really do need to follow the directions and get whatever it is into the freezer ASAP. This is am important part or it seems to leak. Friends of mine had one of the more expensive units and I used it for some home brewing grains. Months later, still sealed and hard as a rock. Things I have tried with the Reynolds unit have leaked air by the next day if not frozen right away.

I guess it depends what you want to do with it.

Oh, my wife also tried to use the Reynolds unit with some fresh basil, no good….

I've had the same problem with them staying sealed. I have found that if you keep the sealing area clean success rate dose improve.
