We received money for Christmas and are thinking of looking a a meat smoker. Not sure what we should look for.  We are looking to smoke turkey, fish, venison and beef. Not huge amounts at a time,  suggestions?  What we should avoid?

First you have to decide, do you want charcoal, gas, electric, or wood. Then you need to give us an amount you can spend.

First off welcome to SMF. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Welcome, Loghouse!

I agree with Al.  Think about what you would like to have, the size you might need, and how often you will use it.  No rush, take your time.  You don't want to rush to buy something and then it isn't suited for your purpose or personal need.

Please let us look over your shoulder by sending photos.  We love the photos.  Enjoy, and take advantage of all the resources available here from all over the world.  GOOD LUCK!

This is good advise. My .02 along the same lines, think about how much time you want to spend with the smoker, some you spend all your time adjusting the fire Temps up temps down, to much smoke not enough smoke and then there are some smokers you set and forget then eat. Set and forget is not as sexy as the others but a nice place to start and once hooked with some experience look for the monster rig or build one. its all good, getting there is half the fun, enjoy
