I'm Nick and I'm from Bristol, Virginia. 10 miles from the speedway for any NASCAR fans.

I'm a car guy at heart and got interested in BBQ through a friend in a car club I'm a member of. He host a BBQ for the club every year in Florida. His is some of the best ribs and pulled pork I have had. So after attending for a few years I decided to buy one of those cheap vertical charcoal smokers from lowes. I got decent results from it, flash forward a few years, I out grew it.

So I decided to buy a larger one. My local Lowes sells this little hexagon shaped trailer unit that I liked but I did not like the price.

Now luckily I have a awesome job where I get to deal with the local machine and fabrication shops and have access to a water jet.

So I decided to build my own reverse flow smoker. I got a killer deal on some 1/8" diamond plate. I know it's thin, but it's free.

I found a link to a calculator on here and used cylinder calculations. Now it was't suppose to be this big to begin with.

    cooker chamber size is 36 x 60

    fire box size is 30 x 29

    chimney is 6" diameter tube

I have a couple more weekends of work and it should be ready to go. I want to build a second rack to maximize cooking area.

    CAD for the end plates

Could not find a trailer to fit my needs, So I built one.

    Water jet doing it's thing.

    Fast forward a month.

    And my other interest...

    Thanks for the welcome.

I understand about no 12 step process. This thing is suppose to work. If it does not then it will get modified till it works properly.

I actually manged to finish up and tow it home for the final prep and paint.

I have about 5 gallons of used peanut oil from Thanksgiving turkey fry. Can I use that for the seasoning process?
