  1. Just a backyard griller looking to get into smoking.  Had been thinking about a pellet grill and followed another forum for a while until I realized I'd probably skipped a crucial step...learning the process of tending a fire, and understanding the basics.  So I'm forgoing the pellet grill for now and have just added an offset smoker (converted my cheap charcoal griller) to learn on.  Still use and love my Broil King gasser, but just want to learn some smoking basics.

I plan to sign up for the 5-day course and look forward to interacting with everyone as soon as I can understand the lingo and study some basic techniques.

Experience:  Gas grilling, charcoal grilling, open fire, dutch ovens...but lost in a kitchen.

Desired outcome:  learning to barbeque and enjoying some smoked food; buying new clothes one size larger than I wear now; and making my neighbors crazy jealous.

Hi Andy! :welcome1:to SMF! There are a lot of good people here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share. If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice. Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there. The trial and error method works well. We will try to help you keep the errors to a minimum since we already made them for you. We look forward to your contributions.
The search bar at the top can be your best friend when you are trying to find answers to your questions but you can still ask too if you want!
We have an Articles section that is full of great information about smoking to include a lot of recipes and instructionals. Check it out there is a lot to learn in there!
  3. Welcome to SMF
  4. Hi, neighbor. I live in Ardmore but work in Huntsville. Have you checked out the Alabama group yet? Just joined SMF myself and have 0 experience with smokers (lots of time grilling, however).

  5. Welcome!  Lot of great info here, as well as the friendliest, most helpful people you could ask for.

One of our Super Moderators, Kat, Should be along soon with her official welcome.  BTW she also lives in Madison, you might be neighbors.

    We also love pictures.

[IMG]  to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! I am a Neighbor!!!! join the Alabama members Group!  We all need to get a Day for all of us to meet and greet soon!

If you didn't read the Terms of Service notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums. Rule #11......"Off Site Links are not allowed here at SMF" is something new. There are other simple guidelines for all of us to remember as we interact here.

If you need any help roaming around here in SMF....just give me a shout.  Happy to help any time!

  9. Welcome aboard. You came to the right place to learn.
