Hello!

Looking around this site, it sure appears there's plenty of experience. I'm from SW Michigann and have been smoking by wood and propane for a number of years and in all kinds of weather.

I've reviewed your thread and posts on control valves as I have a 8 year old Great Outdoors Smokey Mountain Series propane unit that just failed and it's the adjustable gas control valve at the bottom front of the unit. Finding a replacement has been difficult as I've learned that company is out of business. Looking around the web for a replacement as well as locally has not been successful.

It might be time to shop for another smoker if it can't be fixed, and I would certainly appreciate some guidance if you have the opportunity.

Thanks in advance and I certainly look forward to the new recipes and techniques for smoking.

Welcome to smf, the smokey mountain series are now made by Landmann, I just bought one at bass pro shop, you might be able to contact the Landmann company to see if they have the part, good luck.

I would find one that the box is about the same size, and call that company.

I think I called the company that makes the ones they sell at Lowe's or mejers and priced them for my home built.

Or it may be time for a bigger smoker.

What went bad with it? They sometime get plugged with spider gunk, but are pretty simple to take apart and clean.

Again welcome to the forum.

Howdy, welcome to the SMF!!

As Northern mentioned above, Landmann has taken over Great Outdoors and still makes the SM. Control valve on my older S/S GOSM went Tango Uniform last week too so the timing is now right for me to convert it to NG.
