  1. Just joined this forum and like others on this site, I really enjoy cooking, especially with my smoker. I initially started smoking meat around 2005. I bought a Brinkmann Smoke & Grille (charcoal) to get started and after getting help from Jeff concerning the mods that this smoker so much needed, I have used it right up to this day. I have since converted it to propane with great success I might add. It's so much easier to keep a steady temp for long hours of smoking. My 3 close buddies that I retired with love BBQ, smoked and grilled food. The 4 of us just recently built a cook shack and I will be getting a new Landmann 38      2 drawer propane smoker, I have read some great reviews on this site concerning that smoker. I also just purchased a remote thermometer that I saw on this site.

So I am  looking forward to new recipes, new skills, and much needed advise. Hope to get some tips from some of you pros out there, as I have a lot to learn about this great fulfilling (and filling) hobby of ours.

    Thank you, Joe

  6. Yes I did think about Tainos competition. My understanding is you can only use wood/coal fired smokers, no propane. It this accurate information? A couple of people I know were in the competition last year I think. Thanks for responding.

Joe, the October competition was a certified KCBS competition and yes we were not allowed to use propane. The competition that was held in June was not KCBS so you could use whatever you wanted. I don't know if they will be holding both competitions next year. Keep an eye on their website and face book page next year. Maybe I'll see you there if you do the KCBS comp.

  8. Just fired up my brand new Landmann 38" 2 drawer smoker today. (Propane) Had to season it. Now I have to maybe try it this weekend. Gotta do some mods to it though. Something new to play with. Has plenty of room, I actually think I could fit ten racks of ribs in the thing if I had to. Very large.  Thanks for the competition info.

No problem! Good luck with your new smoker! Do you any pics of it yet?
  10. I will take pictures eventually. Now I just have to get use to this new unit. Lots of bugs to get out. Nice and big though. I think I'll like it, but I have to get more familiar with it. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks
  11. Thanks for the shout. I will be poking around here and there on this forum. Trying to get used to a new unit I just got. Thanks for writing.
