    Just joined this site and am learning my way around. Hope not to tick off anyone for doing things incorrectly.

    I'm new to smoking but am looking at buying a weber 18.5 smoker. My main concern is can you use just hardwood in it rather than charcoal. I heat my house with wood and have an abundance of it, plus there is no better way to barbeque other than over a hardwood fire.

    Looking to glean the knowledge from this experienced group.

    PS Live in northern NY in the Adirondack Mountains.

    About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
    and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
    We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions Post it
    and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is because their
    are so many different ways to make great Q We all have our own taste.

    Welcome to the forums Pete!  You've found the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Looking forward to your input here, and just ask when you need anything...someone here will surely have the answer. 

    Not sure myself about using a wood fire instead of charcoal in the WSM.  We have lots of WSM owners might post that question over in the charcoal smoker forum to get their feedback.
