Hello all,

I've been reading quite a bit in these forums for the past couple of months and feel that I've picked up quite a bit.  I made the mods to my smoker (ECB) and feel that I've had some rather modest successes... though I have stumbled along the way, to be sure.  I have also just been granted leave by my other, more presentable half, to move up a little and get a new smoker (about $200 or so not counting "incidentals").  I've been considering the GOSM... REALLY considering it!!!  I really want something with a fair amount of room where I can actually smoke ribs while laid flat... haven't really been able to fit too much in the little Brinkmann.

Looking forward to being a vocal member of the community... and posting a QVIEW or two to boot.

Thanks,

Ray

Ray welcome to SMF glad you decided to join in. The GOSM's are good smokers I would look at the model #  3605BGD at Bass Pro it would allow for the full size racks of ribs. I'm actually going to pick one up my next trip to Bass Pro I have another GOSM already but want a second for another location. Hopefully you've picked up some of the great recipes here to try as well as the info. Have fun and happy smoking

The big block from bass pro shop is the ticket like Jerry (pineywoods) said. Welcome Ray to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/list/127

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again

Welcome to Your New Addiction

Welcome to SMF,

I have figured out that this smoking thing is addicting..

First you buy a smoker. then you learn to smoke then you buy a bigger smoker .

hi ray,

man this is the best forum on smoking imo on the internet , the website ain't bad either.  years ago i bought an ecb played

around with it and smoked some so so meat. let it rust out and then about five years ago i bought a propane smokn grill.

rocked on for a year or two was doing about the same as before then i came across this forum and website. things instantly changed

not bragging but now with what iv'e learned  i smoke some awesome stuff.

welcome and good smokn

Welcome Ray!

Man oh man did you ever come to the right place! Settle in my friend and don't forget the pictures, we love pictures of food. So much so that I have asked for a few just to hang in my kitchen. No, I'm not creepy at all. I swear.

Thanks all for the warm welcomes!!!

Well, I picked up the smoker last night from the Bass Pro Shop and will try to get to seasoning today so I can be ready to jump in with some ribs tomorrow.  Looking forward to it, I must say!!!

Welcome to the SMF, Glad to know you're making use of the information available to you. You can't go wrong with a GOSM, especially the big block, Plenty of room, fairly easy learning curve too. It's all good my friend.
