Well it's taken longer than I thought but My first version of a UDS is done and smokin! I went with a single 1-1/2" intake and a 2" stack on the lid. Right now I'm using up the lump charcoal I had left from my UDFP that I like to cook on for the summer months. Gonna switch to briqettes next.
I'll spare you all the usual info the burnin the liner and simple build stuff cause all that has been well covered already.

The Drum is busy today... Iput 5-1lb rolls of Bob Evans sausage on and a 2 lb roll of apple-cinnamon sausage that we make at work. apple cinnamon seasoning, sausage, and a can of apple pie filling....mmmmmmm yummy![IMG] The bigger roll is the apple cinnamon.

after the regular rolls cooled me & Mrs SOB sliced and vacum packed them for freezer storage

The lump charcoal is , as alot of people have said, not real stable on the temps.

Very nice there Sob. I like the new smoker you did a heck of a job on it too. Now those chubs of sausage is alittle differant to me but I bet they taste good.

I really like the idea of the exstension on the intake .
makes it alot easier for us old folks to use .(don't have to get down on the ground to adjust it.)[IMG]

Well it seems the extended intake idea wasn't perfect afterall. while doing some chuckies I was getting smoke coming back out my intake pipe. almost like I had 2 exhaust pipes. I was thinking maybe I needed to shorten the intake pipe to create more of a draft in the pipe. I pulled off the pipe at the elbow and sure enough no more smoke coming in the intake. Also the drum seemed to run more stable and hotter when I needed it to. So I took the pipe and cut it down.I'll try to get some pics tomarrow. I just thought I would let everyone have the chance to learn from my mistake. Convienence(sp) is not always best!

Couldn't you have extended the stack instead? Although I suppose that could leave the lid a bit unwieldy.....
