Break in and thermometer question. Mse 30" gas

Discussion in 'Propane Smokers' started by vonk15, Feb 17, 2016.

  1. So seasoning my new mse 30"today. Seems to heat nicely. No problem getting good smoke. Fire box flames up like I've read everywhere. Will replace with a cast iron pan eventually. My question is, where can i get a good thermometer to fit in the door hole. I bought one without much thought to it and it won't fit. Suggestions?

If you bought a good therm, then I would drill out the hole in the door if it's too small..

  3. Hey smokinal! I bought a therm that's just the shaft and nut for small holes. The hole on the door is about the size of the therm face itself. I don't know what i can do to make it fit. Been looking for answers with no luck. What would you suggest?

I guess you would have to get a piece of aluminum plate ( Home Depot sells it ) and drill smaller holes in it & put 1 piece on each side of the door then put the stem thru the holes in the plate & tighten it down.

    Hope that works for you.
