I have a pecan orchard and have tried just about everything. If it's just the shells I'd say go ahead, but don't add them if they have the nut meat still in there. The nut meat has oil in it and can leave a bitter taste. If the pecans are still good, shell them, use the meat in baking (or cold smoke them) and shells for smoking. There is going to be a shortage of pecans very soon. This was to be one of my best years yet, but because of that ice storm back in Feb. I got nothing this year.
