Where do you guys buy your pork for making bacon?  And how much do you pay per lb?  After you smoke it do you keep it whole or slice it and pack it up?

Out here I usually see the butcher at the grocery store that we shop at.  Last month when I last made  bacon pork belly was 3.99 a lb.  I picked up a 5 lb. slab and when I got home I cut it into 2 pieces.  I've been keeping my smoked  bacon whole.  I slice only what we will eat at the time.

haven't done a slab yet...........kinda hard when butts are $.99/lb. besides i like the meatiness of buckboard.

The last belly I bought was $3.50/lb. and it was skinless. skin on are less.

I buy mine from a small butcher/deli shop but anybody who sells meat should be able to order you some.

I just got some from our local Mexican market and it was $2.49. It was frozen and he cut me one piece for bacon 5# and one to cook up and try a Gordon Ramsay recipe 3#.

I just looked at a belly at a local butcher shop and they wanted 3.99 a lb for a belly. I'll stick to making buckboard for .99 to 1.99 a lb instead!

Do you get food city ads or something Rob? I never see them advertise anywhere. I may have to get one or two. I'm down to one loin of cb and i have o smoke that Sunday after drill..

You need to buy from a small butcher or a specialty grocer.  Most oriental grocers carry pork belly but I have had better success by having a butcher order a 3 belly case.  Last time I paid 2.33 lb but it made some great bacon

I have paid anywhere from $1.99 to $2.99 a pound for raw belly, without the rind (skin).

I think it's supposed to be better to freeze your bacon in blocks, instead of slices, but if anyone thinks I'm gonna get my slicer out & get it dirty every time I want to make a couple BLTs, their outa their tree!!!

I slice it all at once, and freeze it with enough for 3 BLTs in each pack. Two for me, & one for the Mrs.

Bear,

Why not use a knife?  Take the craft to it's truest form.  I freeze in blocks also but it is a pain in the neck to cut it everytime I want to have breakfast.

pete......they send out a flyer every week in the mail but you can also get it online.

I don't get the flyer in the mail but it is advertised online.. I'll take the add to Albertson's and see if they price match!

I live too close to the regular Basha's store to get a Food City flyer..
