Dont go Cheap on the charcoal

Went to my local grocery store and they had some best choice charcoal on sale so I picked up a few bags. Went to go do a smoke and it took hours for the coals to turn white. Once coal did get white they crumbled up and stop burning. It took to bags of this cheap crap to do 2 slabs of ribs and they came out horribly. Did my usual 2-2-1 method and ribs were not tender at all, smoker did not get up to temps. Tried same cut of ribs two weeks later with some lump and wow, major diference. Never ever will I go the cheap route on charcoal. Any other cheap experiences you regret
