Been grillin' for most of my life, BBQing and smoking for about 2-3 years now. Have a slightly tweaked silver smoker, nothing fancy (but I have  been sketching out my brick BBQ/Pizza Oven/Propane Forge, just waiting to buy a nice house to build it).  Work at a farm supply, where I we sell 100% mesquite lump at 40lbs for 14.50 (I get it at about 30% off) so, it's my primary source of fuel, though I do get hardwood briqs once in a blue moon (particularly on 3-day weekends when I underestimate my fuel stocks by about 20lbs, like this one)

Doing a 5lb pork shoulder today, smoked with pear chunks soaked in wheat beer on a mix of a few huge mesquite chunks and briqs.

Also into backpacking, making things and growing food.

Think I have a bit to share and a lot to learn. . .

Hello world.

Welcome, you will find that the people in the forum are extremely helpful.

I see that you are into backpacking, I was born in southern California, but live around Rancho Cordova. If you want to see the most beautiful country in the world, try up around Echo Lake, its near southern part of Lake Tahoe. I still dream about the times I spent there, I now live in New Jersey, the pits.

Echo lake is awesome, got drug out there about five years ago by a few friends who have a cabin about 30 minutes away. Gotta say I'm spoiled though, living amongst the redwoods and all now.

This isn't much of a drooling dinner, just a slow smoke for the wife and I and for a few sandwiches this week, we'll see what I work up for tomorrow, when we've got seven of us in the backyard. ;)

Also, tryin' CowGirl's apple dumplings tonight. I love grilled and smoked deserts, and hers looks tops!

Welcome to the SMF. Glad to have you here. Lots of good folks, great recipes and knowledge. Looking forward to your first qview.

Okay, I shuffled around (pardon, I'm cooking as I write) and have no idea what a qview is. Care to share a link?

Will check out the e-course while digesting this evening, unless the wife and I watch a movie.

Q view is pics of your smokes aka food porn

Where in Norcal, bmudd? I'm smack dab in the middle of Mendocino county.

Like your avatar, everyone here owes something to the firefighters who pulled our a**es out of the fires in '08. . .
