Lookin Good!!!!!

Ya just gotta love the look of new expanded layin out waiting for the first cut.

I am not sure I understand the workings of the damper rod on the stack. Do you lift the rod to adjust the damper?

 Mopar,

Looking great . Got a question for all . I seen alot of smokers and all of fire boxes looks very close to the ground is this just the pics that makes it look so close or are they very close to ground. I am thinking they should be no lower than the axle. Is this the case in most smokers ?

Thanks everyone for the complements.
@ Greg I built mine so that the grates were easy to access as well as the handles on the doors when they're opened but yes most all of this style of smoker I've seen the bottom of the firebox is close to the ground

Sometimes the wait is worth it. I've been working on mine since July and am finally about ready for paint. As soon as the weather cooperates that is.

Mopar- That is one fantastic looking build.  You are very talented.  How is the heat control with that 2.5" drop, and do you adjust that with the tongue?  And for the coal basket, is there a shelf in that for splits to smoke on or does it just go in bulk?  Kinda interested to see how much wood it takes to keep it to temp once you get it going.

Great job man it looks awesome.

Lookin' Good Moparman!!!

I like that handle---I've been one of them since about 1962 !

You gotta put a Ram on that baby!

Can't wait to see the "Q" come off of that thing

Bear

thanks everyone

@fourashleys yes it definitely worth the wait I painted her earlier this week and seasoned it gotta re sand blast the grates finally ready to start smoking

@smokey mo thank you for the compliments so far with only a trial run to get it seasoned with 2.5 bags of Stubb's brand Briquettes only I was holding steady @ 250* for 4 hrs before she dropped in temp it took about an hour to get her dialed in but MAN DO I GOT SOME SERIOUS airflow had the intake grates almost shut off completely  with the same load I can get 380* for 3 + hrs. with the intake grates wide open

no I don't have a shelf in my coal basket but that is a great idea everyone goes into the pool so to speak. she does bleed off  quite a bit of heat  on the stack side but she does seem to recover quick

@Bear thanks  and thanks on the compliment on my screen name I have loved mopars since I knew what they were and have and still do own mopars I do miss all 4 Rams I had ( '94 3/4 ton V-10 '85 3/4 ton 318 granny low 4 spd, '88 3/4 ton 318 auto and last '98 1500 4x4 318 auto) though I miss my  '72 R/T Challenger the most I do have a '00 Durango to fill my needs and she pulls the ugly duckling great.
