In between drinks and doing nothing but sit and stare at my drum while it cooked my chicken I put the fire rope in my door.

9 feet of rope and 1/2 a tube clear high temp silicone.

I took a trip to the salvage lot today and came home with a short piece of 18"x3/8 wall pipe for my wheels. The bad news is that my plasma is not efficient cutting 3/8. BTW to anyone looking at a plasma, I am still kicking myself for not buying the next larger size cutter.

I marked it out and used paint tape for a guide. The new delicate paint tape sticks very well yet it peels right off when you are ready.

I hated to but I used 10 metabo original slicer disc and ended up with 4 sections for my wheels.

While I was there I grabbed several 1" ID pipe drops for the axle.

I stopped by metal by the foot and grabbed a piece of mechanical tubing that fit just right inside of my 1".

I had the re-bar for the spokes.

A little drawing on the bench and a tiny bit of guessing and I had it layed out.

I had to finish my front legs and shelf support so that I could work on the wheel location, so now all I need is the expanded shelf.

Here is what I ended up with.

P.S. Do any of you guys that live close to kansas city have any experience with mig welding aluminum with a spool gun? Thats my next venture.

Today I was able to draw and cut out my pigs to hold the hamdle on. Silly me!!! I was at the store yesterday and forgot to grab the stainless spring handles.

I will have to wait to weld the pigs on until I have the spring handle so that I get them in the right spot.

I drilled the axle for a lock bolt and jam nut.

And I finally got a handle welded on so that it is a tad easier to move around. Now I am gonna have to chain it to the trailer so that it dont walk away.

My welds are getting a tiny bit better, I also still have to locate a chunk of 3/4 #9 expanded for the lower shelf.

I use an aluminum spool gun at work every now and then. It is a lot trickier than steel welding. Not hard to use on thick metal, but sheet metal will burn through real easy.

Flua has taken it to a new level. Makes my build look rough to. I like yours, looks really heavy duty.

Love those smiling pigs for your handle.

Thanks man, I was really pleased with the pigs. They are cut from the sheet of 409 stainless that I picked up last week. After doing some research on the 409 I decided that it would make a perfect material for cut outs. I was just a little bummed out that the SS does not cut near as clean as steel does, but its acceptable. I tried letters but my hand is not quite steady enough. Yet.

On the aluminum, I want to make a holder that can hold and store one roll of foil and also one roll of plastic wrap. Right now I have one built from wood, it works fine but its just not omg cool. Since I have a spool gun and a straight argon tank I decided to go with the aluminum over stainless. Stainless would be super OMG cool. I tried some 18 ga and made it into swiss cheese. My material for the next project is maybe 10 ga. I will have to see how it goes, if you don't mind I may need to pick your brain to see what I am doing wrong if things go poorly for me.

Its hard to stay motivated when my backs out of whack. I guess a better way to put it is that it really sucks to freaking ach all the dang time. I'm giving in and going to get it checked out tomorrow, just a little stubborn here LOL.

I just couldn't sit anymore tonight so I ventured out to the garage and worked on the pigs. I was at metal by the foot the other day and found these handles, 1.49 each and some 3/8 stainless round stock. The only stain rod I had was for 309 instead of 409 but I think for this app I will be fine. It took a little practice running 1/16th rod from 1/8 hi/lo. I do need to make sure, that when someone bends down to look in the smoker with the lid full up that they dont get a pig foot jabbed in there forehead.

That would be a bad thing.

Looking good. Maybe you could cut out some circles so it looks like the pigs are standing on some thing. At least you wouldn't get poked.

I know what you mean about being stubborn. I have to be on my deathbed before I get checked out.

Get the back fixed so you can get some smoke rollin out the stack.

Oh man I read your post actually without paying attention to the name but looking at the avatar. LOL Then you ask about rolling the pipe and I look and see KCK. By now I was thinking wow there's another here in town. LOL Sometimes I am a little slow, but I finally figured out you changed your avatar. OH Boy I guess its getting late.

No I did not roll the tank, it was a piece of pipe that had a life as a different project at one time. The door section had been cut out the whole length of pipe, near 7 feet long. This left 30 some inch's still as pipe and that's what the firebox's came from. When I started I was working on both at the same time but now I am cut down to one at a time. For the cook area I had to cut the door for the ends and weld them back to the pipe. That was a challenge. Pipe tends to spring when its cut end to end, I had to squeeze it back by almost 2 inch's.

There is a company near 23 st on Manchester that rolls nearly anything you can think of. If you were on 4 35 going north from Truman rd toward i 70, just south of 23 looking west you can see a giant i beam that has been rolled. That's the back side of the place, if I can remember tomorrow I will drive by the front and try to catch the name and address. I have a friend in passing, that does decorative iron work and that's where he takes the stuff he needs rolled.

I got depressed this AM when I called the back cracker and they told me the earliest appt would be mon morning. Oh well its been this long another 2 days isn't gonna kill me, I hope.

First off, sorry for the lack of attention to this project.

Paul, I did get the name of the steel rolling business on manchester and took a pic of the name and address, now I have to locate it again. I will try to post it tomorrow night.

Thanks Matt, it has made smoke on two occasions. It wasn't near as worry free as the drums but it did run very nice.

I hope to get back to work on it sometime next week. We have had a small little non sanctioned event planed for saterday, and now our two girls are gonna cook at it also. I guess I am gonna give up my pink drum for them to use. If they win, I'm taking it back, LOL. Its a fun one, no matter what fuel source and since its only one day we don't have brisket to do.

The back is getting better about as fast as a bad stab from a locust thorn. I'm really starting to get sick of it.
