Blackberry Curve Modem Test w/Hailstorm pics

2nd day with the new Blackberry Curve 8530. Testing PB uploads and PB to SMF posting to see what kind of speed this thing can pull compared to my DSL router.

The makings of a wicked storm, as I witnessed from about 25 miles away...this was the afternoon of May 27, 2010, located in S/W Campbell County, WY...this storm continued north through the city of Gillette, as I recall:

Storm Cloud

The remnants as I crossed behind the storm's path...I drove on hail covered roads for over 8 miles:

Aftermath

A calm and serene moment later that evening:

Serenity

Fortunately for us, this storm missed my current home-town...we survived one tornado back in 2005, and believe me, one's enough.

Well, no complaints on the Blackberry Curve for use as a internet modem...stays right on top of things nicely, and more reliable than my DSL "high speed" (not) modem/router.

Take care, and keep those smokers happy, all!

Now your photos look good to me. I have been using that phone for alongtime now. It's pretty good and the internet is a little slow to me thou. But then it's a phone.

Who's your provider?

Right now Tether for Blackberry is beta testing Tether v1.4, let me know if you're interested and i'll send you the file, free tethering from the Blackberry world until the beta period ends.

This one's a fairly new rig...my wife had an older unit (2 years old, I think) that was intensely slow. I just loaded the Blackberry desktop management software to my computer last-night and then ran the software updates for the blackberry, then I removed any games and foreign language support to free-up more memory. This seemed to speed it up over the original configuration and software.

I got this through AT&T /  Alltel (formerly cellular-one). The modem speed while connected to my computer is 115+ Kbs...not lightning fast but gets the job done eventually. If you open a thread on the forum and browse through it at normal speed, it will load pics faster than you can get to them when scrolling down and reading. Using it as a mobile device isn't too bad either...much faster than than my wife's blackberry pearl was.

I mainly was checking the speed and reliability against our DSL, thinking of possibly of dumping the DSL service, but it's only costing us 38 bucks/month anyway.
