Missouri gathering?

I was just wondering if there was a SMF annual (or whenever) gathering in Missouri. If not, are there any Missouri members on here that would like to see that? And how do we get one started, if anyone wants to?

Depending on time of year I would be interested in the trip from S Louisiana. Missouri is my home state and I get back from time to time to see friends and relatives. Regardless we all Know KC is the home of some fine Q!

Leaving Arizona Sunday for good ole Missouri Forth of July!!!! Arizona forth celebrations SUCK. Wish it was already set up. Go for it maybe next year. BOOM BOOM YEEEE HAAAA!!!!!!

I would think we would want at least an overnight offered to those who are coming from further away. And camping is always fun!!!! We need to decide the general area of MO. Duck, can you be more specific on your location other than Mid Missouri. I'm willing to travel whether its just a day event or a weekend one.

This could be interesting! We had a Mo gathering on another forum that I belong to ( Specialty Pistols ) and it was a great time, hmmmmm wonder if we could organize both sites " Missouri Gun and Grill Gathering "

I'm from Rolla, MO. there are many places close to the middle of the state. around Lake of the Ozarks which has many other things to do this time of year. there are several trout fisheries ran by the DNR that have campgrounds nearby which have rivers running through or near them. there are several campgrounds near local rivers. some rivers boats can be used, others can be canoed since they are shallow rivers.

just a few ideas from me of where to have the gathering. Rolla is about 3.5 hours from all 4 corners of the state.

so i talked to MRS duck killer and she suggested we have it about 20 miles south and east of Rolla near a town called Steelville, MO. they have many campgrounds near there on the meramec river and they almost all do river rafting. the meramec river is host to many species of fish and wildlife. smallmouth bass are abundant and there is a ton of scenery. a trout fishing park is located on the river not far from here called meramec springs. the state conservation department manages the hatchery and stocks the river the river is not suited for bigger boats, but mostly for canoeing and floating. the campgrounds do accommodate RV's and 5th wheels. i can provide more info as requested. any other ideas welcomed....(please? LOL)

Steelville seemed to have several options that looked good. Plus lots of other activities around the area for anyone that needs something to do instead of relaxing :)

I like Candy Cane RV park just because of its name. Have you seen the movie "Joy Ride"? You'll understand why.

How soon do we want to do this?

Well it sure did get quite all of sudden. I see that the last post was the 1st of July and now we are into the first of Sept. I suppose either you all had the gathering or it just flopped. I am really new and struggling to get a good smoke. I went from a some what shut down of the exhaust vent with strong smoke, but the bitter aftertaste of creosote. To now with the exhaust vent wide open and barely any hickory taste. Also I have noted that sometimes the exhaust smoke is so so with just a hint of hickory to one time that oh so sweet smell of hickory that you think you are in heaven. I think I have the hang of what the meat feels like when you probe it. Its like you are probing air and boy that meat just falls apart. So mostly it is maintaining the temperature and getting the smoke right that I would love to be able to attend a gathering and watch the pros at work.

Cooler weather like highs in the 70s is my favorite weather, but then one has to worry about it raining. Why does it seem like it always rain on the weekends?

I am WAY down in the Boot Heal,, so to get to St Louis area its about a 3 hour drive for me,,, But I would love it if we had a "get together"

All for an MO gathering, sounds like it might grow into something serious. Rolla area seems to be fairly central. I know it's too late for 2011 but next summer is around the corner and will give us much time to plan and get things situated.

Anyone willing to commit? I am.

I'll be glad to help out in getting an area set out...campers and stuff. You all know the deal. Let me know, I'd love to do this.
