Hello,

I finished my side fire box smoker last year, and used it four times. I stopped because I was not getting enough heat into the drum, and way too much smoke. I thought I needed a heat source, like propane, but now I am not sure. I may only need to create bigger draft. I only have two small holes on the air vent on the SFB. I believe I need to make them bigger and add one more. You can see the holes in one of the pictures below.

Any ideas?

I would definitely try a larger draft capability into the firebox to see if that fixes your problem.. other than that the firebox looks to be plenty large enough to handle the cooking chamber.

Can you get some closeups of the firebox opening (inside of firebox where it enters the cooking chamber) for us to see a little better?

Hello,

It was a draft issue. I made the holes on the door larger and had to open up the hole between the firebox and the pit. Works great now. Thanks.

I love the smoker that has the two 55 gallon drums. I may build one like that, it came out great.

Thanks,

Mat
