24lbs of Pork Butt for my Masonic brothers

So tomorrow we initiate a new member into our lodge. What better excuse to fire up the Q than that?

I started @ 5PMEST with the smoker @ 215* - 225* with the butts in.

Already got the TBS rolling...

Took the baby for a walk and came back and this is where we're at.

Now time to get the little one a bath and wait for Mom and the older kids to get home for some grub.

I'll be posting updates throughout the night. I also have 2 yardbirds to do in the morning.

Smoke on...

Nice job brother. Sounds like your candidate is in for an excellent meal.

Looks like a good lodge meeting and degree work to me. Do you often do smoked meat for your degree work?

We usually have a light dinner before...when I went through we had smoked hamburgers and brats soaked in beer...mmmmm...

This is the first time I've smoked for the lodge. I'm excited and hope everyone will like it.

It does look like a really good start to a fine meal for you and your fellow brothers and then are you gonna let the newbie wash up the dishes. Heck I would be happy to clean up specially after knowing about what it's gonna taste like.

5 hours down - 146°

Smoker is sitting between 215-220 still.

Hit the 140° mark right at 4 hours...never got it that close before.

I took a few pics but this is the only one turning out:

Heading to bed now...

If you look at where I'm posting from and you're a Mason, then you'll be familiar with the temple that is here.

What you won't know, however, is that I worked as an Executive Assistant for Mr. A. over here (which is run by the Masons) even though I'm not a member of the Masons nor I do I care to be one. I'm simply much too independent and lazy to belong to any kind of a fraternal organization.

I can tell you from experience, though, that these people have a strong sense of social responsibility, and their contributions to charity cannot be matched. I respect that deeply and wouldn't even begin to subscribe to the conspiracy theories that surround the organization (Illuminati controlling the government, etc.).

With all of that in perspective, I'm hoping that your smoke comes out quite awesome!

2AM and time to foil - 166°

I woke up at 2AM and checked on everything. The fire got a little hotter than I'd like but the butts look good.

They are foiled up and waiting to go to 200°.

Should be done in a few hours...then time for the yard birds!

@ 5AM I got back up to check and all 4 butts were ~200° and pulled easily.

I kept them wrapped in foil and in the cooler covered by a towel until tonight.

I just put the birds on but by the way the smoker is acting, I may have to finish them in the oven.

I hope to get some good QView from dinner tonight and will post it back tonight.

Thanks for watching.

Glad they turned out well. Looking forward to the Q-view...

QView fail

Once we got to lodge things got in such a hurry that I didn't get to take any pictures of the food or anything else!

I will do better next time.
