I have a electric smoke hollow smoker and it came with no vents so a while back i drilled two 1/2 inch holes on the bottom just above the thermostat and one 1/2 inch hole on top of smoker seemed to work alright well did some chicken the other day and seemed like it had kind of a stale smoke taste, but i did use apple chuncks and apple saw dust and i usually just use generic bags of mesquite. My question i guess is how big shoulld my vents be, also is it ok to leave the bark on my apple chuncks? thanks in advance you guys have been great at answering my questions.

I have a different brand, but all mine has is a dime sized hole in the very bottom where the excess drippings drain out into a pan underneath the unit. The vent or exhaust hole on the top is about the size of a quarter. That's it - no stale smoke, lots of moisture in the meats and plenty of good Q
