Haven't been smoking lately. Too busy doing this......

I haven't had time to do any smoking lately with our 2 month old daughter, and this project I've been working on. I was getting tired of the existing garden fence and wanted something permanent and more visually pleasing

So, for the past couple weeks, I've been slaving away on a new fence. I cut all the pickets down from 48" to 40" (all 250 of the damn things), then notched out the gothic look into them with a drill press and hole saw because when I bought them they were just pointed and thought that looked kinda bland. Then I sanded them down some, and sealed them all. It took forever, but I'm glad I took the time to do it right. Should last me for a long time. I even made the garden about 8 feet wider while I was at it. Was a little cramped for space last season. Not it is right at 30' x 40'. Luckily I only had to do 3 sides since I have chain link running along that edge of the yard.

Can't wait to plant in a couple weeks!!!

Yeah Caveman. I used Pittsburgh Ultra toner. It is like stain, but is thinner, and goes a lot further. I don't think it would work well for old gray looking stuff, but since these pickets are brand new, it makes them look real nice. It accents the character of the wood and also adds a little color to it (I used the red cedar tone color) Since I sanded the boards, they were pretty smooth so it didn't take too much. I used just under 2 gallons on the whole thing. It is supposed to last for 3 years on decks and 5 years on fences. I got underground sprinklers, so the fence will get hit with a lot of water, so I'm guessing I won't make it the whole 5 years before I have to re-seal it.
