Stock ECB

Hello All,

I'm new here. Just got into the hobby of smoking foods. I just seasoned my brand-new ECB I picked up for $37. After some research, it makes sense to do some or all of the mods on this forum; however, will I still be able to smoke ribs or fish while I get some parts to do these mods?

Simply put, can I use my ECB w/o mods or is it worth waiting until I do the mods?

I'm very excited to get started!! icon_smile.gif

I did a couple mods then used mine, then did another, used it again and am going to do a nother couple now. the mods just make it easier.

the best way to learn is to make mistakes. just go slow and pay attention to what you do. maybe even take notes of what your doing, food type, wood type, charcoal type weather conditions... it will help you tremendously when you have a question for the guys on this site. there are guys on here with over 40 years of experience and all that info is important until you get a feel for it. the people on this site will be more than happy to help. and as stated earlier...take plenty of pics for qviewPDT_Armataz_01_34.gif

I think you'll enjoy smoking with the ECB if you do the mods right away. I did mine http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/for...ad.php?t=52008using the instructions from http://www.randyq.addr.com/index.html

It's well worth it.

Randy's mods got me pointed in the right direction and were a big help in getting my ECB temps stable.

I couldn't wait for the mods - brought it home, put it together, and fired it up. First cook was a butt and it got me hooked.

I just got finished with some mods!

I picked up a better thermometer and drilled a 3/8 hole to put it a little below the stock gauge so that it reads the temps closer to the grill surface.

I put the legs on the outside.

I picked up 3 1/2 x 12" screws to make the stand for the charcoal pan.

I drilled 8 3/8 holes in the charcoal pan, 4 on each side.

I'm super excited to see how the ribs turn out this weekend that I plan on using Apple Chips and the 321 Method!

Oh, on day 3 of the e-course.
